4.0/165. Throw an app at Stanford/Cornell or not?
Just got december score back with a 165. 4.0 GPA with good softs, 3 strong rec letters. LSP puts my Stanford chances at 42%. Is it worth it to put the effort into getting a Stanford app in fast or is it too late in the process and this would be a waste of money? Thanks.
Edit: Also, LSP puts my chances at Cornell at 69%, would it be wise to throw an app at them too?

waste of money
you do have a better shot at berkeley but I think even that is a waste. If you have money to burn, then apply and you'll never have to wonder, "what if".
LSP is a joke.
edit: That 165 is hurting your stellar GPA. Your chances at Cornell are slim too but probably better than california ivy.

I've already applied to all the schools I originally wanted, Berkeley included. I wrote a 4 page specific PS for them. I also applied to Penn and Michigan as reaches, but doubtful they'll let me in.rad law wrote:Better to throw an app at Berk.

Berkeley is not a waste. The OP will go straight to committee review, but depending on his/her softs, he/she could have a decent shot.well-hello-there wrote:waste of money

I'm just jaded on berkeley because I applied in january last year with a 168 and they rejected me. If I hadn't applied, I might be wondering "what if". they're right. you've got a shot if the other aspects of your application are top notch.rad law wrote:Bingo.HeavenWood wrote:

Thanks. Congrats on Berkeley. I put my app in in mid-November, but it was on hold till the December score came back yesterday. I too am hesitant about applying to Cornell, because I really have no intention of freezing my ass off in upstate New York for 3 years.canes wrote:Berkeley is definitely not a waste. I just got in with the exact same numbers; no committee review. No W/E. Not really a URM according to TLS wisdom (Cuban). Applied in late November.
I kind of wish I had applied to SLS for the "what if" factor, although that might have indeed been a waste.
Cornell on the hand, I'm almost regretting applying to, because I'm most certainly not spending the next three years in Ithaca and they have somehow not been able to "process" my application within 2 months. Nevertheless, I think you should apply to all schools in your range--which Cornell is--if not solely for peace of mind.
