3.95/170 Michigan resident
First LSAT score- 161
Second attempt- 170
GPA 3.95
Not URM.
Worked part time for 3/4 year of undergrad, and had 2 years of membership in poli sci club. Won a student of the year award in my particular discipline.
This is the short list of schools I'd like to attend and think I have some shot of getting into:
Chicago
Berkeley
Penn
Michigan
Virginia
Michigan is my ideal school, but I'm a little shaken after hearing that their grads are having a hard time compared to their peers in the job market right now.
Oh, and too late for ED anywhere as far as I can tell. Most want it in by Nov 15, and I'm going to be too late for that.

I don't know where you heard M is having trouble w/r/t its peers, but I know for sure that it is doing better than Boalt simply because of M's target markets and the fact that M gets way more employers at OCI. ITE it's probably on par with V. I think P still has a slight advantage for New York placement above the others, while MV are stronger at placing in DC and M stronger in Chicago.
I would say you have a good shot at all of them, except V tends to YP people with a good GPA and LSAT.

In one of the Michigan threads a student talks about his/her thoughts on Michigan's poor placement last year. Seems reasonable.

I am a Mich 2L, but I have heard it's because career services told people to bid on Chicago...which was a terrible idea. Career services recommended bidding on Chicago because New York had no-offered a ton of people.AreJay711 wrote:In one of the Michigan threads a student talks about his/her thoughts on Michigan's poor placement last year. It seems like this year people focused more on New York, so just based off what I have heard, I think it was a lot better. (Plus we had more employers.)

Having read over the "what are my chances" forum a bit, I don't think I've got a snowball's chance in hell of getting into Stanford.Veyron wrote:Wait year, apply to Stttanford, ??? PROFIT! Michigan as a backup, they should give you a good amount of $.

Why not, at or above both medians. If nothing else, by applying earlier you put yourself in a better position to get $ from 6again.gmreplay wrote:Having read over the "what are my chances" forum a bit, I don't think I've got a snowball's chance in hell of getting into Stanford.Veyron wrote:Wait year, apply to Stttanford, ??? Thanks, second to last comment is informative. To summarize, people this year bid "smarter" (consequently way more bid on New York), resulting in better placement.AreJay711 wrote:Here's the thread:

(Just some advice on bidding in the future: look at the GPA info career services provides and bid within your GPA spectrum. I found it really helpful in ranking firms. You have a shot if the firm is 0.1 above your GPA, but get some historical safeties in there as well.
Also, you do NOT need ties for Manhattan nor DC. Firms will ask you why this market if your resume doesn't explain why. Have a one-liner prepared, but nobody really cares. I'm not an East Coaster and nobody hounded me about ties. My friend landed DC biglaw without ever having stepped in DC before he did callbacks. He just didn't want to be in New York and had good grades.)
