Re: 167/4.09
In at WUSTL and USC, chance at UCLA/Michigan, UCB is the least likely, especially if you're not a minority (54% of last year's class). You'll get the most money at WUSTL, probably less at USC, and substantially less anywhere else. Check LSN for a more accurate picture of $ and WLs.raeq63 wrote:what are my chances at ucla, usc, wustl, mich, and ucb (w/ $$ if at all possible)?
the 167 is a retake (162 first time), and I've got good LORs

In at UCLA/USC. They REALLY love high GPAs and you are only 1 point below the lsat median for UCLA and above both for USC.
Michigan is worth an app with that GPA.

I think you have a decent shot at Berkeley. I hate people who went to schools that have have A+ by the way.

Re: 167/4.09
Thanks for the feedback. My pt average was anywhere from 166-171. I'm concerned I wouldn't get enough study time now until the december test with a full class load and work... plus I'm pretty happy with a 167 considering I started at a 151.
If I did get into UCLA would it make more sense to go there at sticker price or USC 25+% off?
Thanks

TBF, some of the most expensive private schools give the best financial aid. I transferred from a large state university to a top-5 highest tuition UG, but I pay less here than I did at my old school.IAFG wrote:and cheap tuition i bet... sorry you guys chose wrong?raeq63 wrote:Yeah, I went to a big state school with breezy classes and easy +A's ...
Regardless, I'm jealous about the A+ thing... neither of my schools offer that.

I live in a very inexpensive college town and pay under $7k in tuition/year... I'll put my money on prestige of law school over undergrad any day.
Also, I'll admit the A+ benefit is strong considering it boosted my gpa from 3.98 to a 4.09.

Good for you, but prestige at UG and LS isn't mutually exclusive. I pay $5k/year at my T20 UG.raeq63 wrote:I live in a very inexpensive college town and pay under $7k in tuition/year... I'll put my money on prestige of law school over undergrad any day.

Fair enough, that's great value for a highly ranked UG. You beat me there.
All this won't matter much when we enter LS, and that's what I'm looking forward to.

Re: 167/4.09
Given that Berkeley appreciates GPAs and you are at their LSAT median I think (or 1 below it, but I thought they fell to 167), I imagine your chances are very good.
Either way, you have no reason to go anywhere below U.Va unless you want scholarships.

Haha, no doubt.stratocophic wrote:+1 Poor power!
Oh, I agree with you about UG prestige being incidental once you enter LS. But I wanted to address the misconception that private colleges are generally more expensive than public colleges. If anything, the opposite may be true. The misconception detrimentally influenced my original college search, so I always try to bring up this issue when I see it being discussed.raeq63 wrote:All this won't matter much when we enter LS, and that's what I'm looking forward to.

No and... umm... no. Uber-prestige is relevant to OCI. Agreed. I loved my time at a certain school which I suspect (from your 'tar) you're familiar with, but I really should've applied to its peers and above as well. Good schools could really do a better job of making their finaid policies clear to high schoolers.atresia wrote:Haha, no doubt.stratocophic wrote:+1 Poor power!Oh, I agree with you about UG prestige being incidental once you enter LS. First, please don't edit my posts to make me look like an idiot. Second, OP is not getting into HYS with a 162 and a 167 on his record. hth.JazzOne wrote:naterj wrote:Ragged wrote:Retake LSAT - get 173+. Go to HYS
Although we don't know if HYS strictly averages we do know that they actually do consider all of an applicants scores reported. With that said, OPs chances at HYS are minimal at best considering he has a 162 and a 167 so telling him to retake and that he has a shot at T3 is pretty shitty advice.
OP probably won't break T6 but has great chances at Boalt on down.
