2.94 166 Predictions

Post by ericcstret » Tue Nov 02, 2010 6:19 pm

Hey guys,

So I have a 2.94 right now, a 166 and a decent resume, but nothing particularly outstanding. I'm planning on retaking the LSAT in December because I did not really study at all the first time around. I'm shooting for 170-174, and my GPA is on the rise (should hit 3.1 or so by the year's end and 3.0 by the end of this semester). I was diagnosed with a learning disability before this year which might hopefully in part explain the low GPA? I'm planning on applying to the following schools. If anybody could give me some predictions and/or recommendations for good shots I could take I'd really appreciate it.

MSU
Iowa
Minnesota
Northeastern
BC
Florida
Wisconsin
Chicago-Kent
BC
American
Michigan
Case Western
Wake Forest
U of Georgia
Wayne State
George Washington

Any info would be very useful. Please be brutal :D

Apply to Emory, they'll take anyone with a 166 and a pulse.

Yep.

If you're feeling really ballsy, take a year off, work, get a 170+, and ED to Northwestern.

2.94 makes it hard to say. Schools hate sub-3.0s.

Fair enough, if you had to put money on it will I get in anywhere on my list? Or should I drastically reconsider my position? Sorry to harp on about it, I'm just trying to figure out if I should sit this cycle out or not and if not I need to get my apps in asap obviously. Thanks for the help!

If you can get the GPA up, wait.

in general, you'll probably have to shoot lower with that GPA

I had a 3.5/165 and didn't get in to many of those schools (of the ones you listed i was in at wake, florida, and northeastern)

I would apply this year and if it doesn't work out, then taking a year off to raise your GPA above 3.0 would make a huge difference.

OP,

Your list is pretty broad in terms of where you can get in with your numbers (American, yes; Michigan, no). I applied and was accepted at a number of those schools with slightly lower numbers than yours so it is definitely do-able. I was out of undergrad for about 6 years, though. If you can push your GPA up a bit and bust through the 170 wall, you will do fine.

Also, you mentioned you were diagnosed with a learning disability. There is an organization for law students with disabilities. Check out http://www.NALSWD.org. Nalswd has great information like getting LSAT and BAR accommodations and advice on applying to schools.
