Predict My Future! Please? 3.56+, 173
Hi guys,
I'm going to join the bulk of "what are my chances" threads in the post October test results era.
I am a 3rd year at a top 5 public school applying next September for law school. I am however going to finish undergrad in 3 years and try to find a job in the gap year. I have a 3.56 GPA right now, hoping to get that up to a 3.65, maybe 3.7 by the end of the year. If I get straight A's this entire year, I think my GPA would be in the mid 3.7's. I've had an LSAC GPA of 4.2 for the past 3 quarters so I think its a legitimate possibility. I got a 173 on my LSAT the first, and only time, I've taken it and don't plan on a retake. My softs are average at best - internship at the Governor's office in my state, Consultant for my school's Transportation office for a year, Leadership positions in various clubs with, president in one. Fairly accomplished musician - performed twice at Carnegie Hall as well as at Harvard and Northwestern, and with the Boston Conservatory. If I end up getting a job post graduation, I'll have worked a year and three months before getting into law school. Also, I'm fairly young. I'm 19 now and will be 20 when I graduate. This puts me at 21 on day 1 of law school.
What are my chances at:
HYS (probably out, I know)
Columbia (thinking about ED)
NYU (also thinking about ED)
Chicago
Berkeley
Penn
Michigan
Virginia
Duke (not really interested in going to duke)
Northwestern (is it even worth applying here?)
Cornell
Georgetown
UCLA
Vandy
USC
BU
BC
GW
Thanks!

Good question. I decided not to apply to NU, partly because I thought it would be hard to fit in as someone coming "fresh from undergrad". Keep in mind that the average age at matriculation is 26. Will there be other 21/22 year olds? Yep, but not many.curryinaninstant wrote: Northwestern (is it even worth applying here?)
Good luck on your cycle when it comes around

Yeah. Thats what I'm worried about. I might apply if they give me a waiver.Fresh wrote:Good question. Should I ED to NYU or Columbia?

I have very similar numbers (3.58 and 174) and asked about the same schools, except HYS. I was told my chances RD at NYU were pretty good, but that UChi and Columbia would be less of a sure thing unless I EDed. I'm probably going to apply RD to all because I'm hoping for money at MVP. FWIW, I think I'd take NYU over Columbia, but if I were really gunning for Columbia I'd ED there.
Cliff notes: If you really want to go to Columbia, apply ED. If you could live with MVP, while still having a shot at CCN, and want to see what money you'll get, do RD.

What about ED-ing to NYU and getting in for sure?

Also, is it worth applying to UCI for scholarship money?

You're about 25% for Columbia and 50% for NYU, so I would ED to NYU unless you want to consider possible $ from the lower T14. "Top 5 public school" probably isn't strong enough to tip you in at Columbia, IMO. With your numbers, do not consider UCI or any non-T14.

If you can hit 3.72+ you'll probably be 50-60% at Columbia and 60% at NYU.
