my best friend has a 3.5 in math from a top public school (with substantial grad coursework) and a 180. he got very, very, very sick in the middle of his junior year which explains part of his grades. not URM, middling to bad softs. chances at HYSCCN?

Chances at all(according to law school predictor) . Your friend should apply Yale down and will likely get one of those schools. NYU looks like the best in the T6 as your friend is near their 25% GPA without considerations also Nortwestern looks good
