3.66 / 175 - Academic probation?
Hi everyone,
I have a 3.60 right now. By the end of the semester I project 3.66-3.7. I got a 175 LSAT. My school is known for grade deflation, and my counselor told me that grads have been getting in on the lower end of the 25-75% ranges for the last 10 years. However, I was put on academic probation early in my college career.
I'm wondering if I have a shot at HYS, or if I should wait a year, or if not what my chances might be at CCN or lower. I am also currently applying for a Fulbright scholarship; would my numbers be competitive enough for HYS or CCN given a year as a Fulbrighter?
Thanks.

Did you cure cancer and/or get a Rhodes scholarship? If not, your chances at HYS are very slim. I don't know what effect a Fulbright has, though I suspect it's among the stronger softs. You've got a good shot at CC, and should be looking good for NYU on down.

+1 (sorry dude... wish your GPA was better so I could give you better news... but HYS don't want to see a 3.6x in undergrad from a non URM... no matter the school)clintonius wrote:http://yale.lawschoolnumbers.com/stats/0910/

I was also put on academic probation early in my college career. If I attach an adequate addendum, will that affect my range?

I was on academic probation, freshman year, for one quarter, taking courses for a major I switched out of a year later.
I plan on explaining this in an addendum while pointing to the upward GPA trend to show how I learned from my mistakes. Appropriate? Usually I am against addenda for a lower GPA but since the box is checked for academic probation I feel it might be necessary.

Do you expect it to knock your range down at all?McNulty wrote:I was on academic probation, freshman year, for one quarter, taking courses for a major I switched out of a year later.

It knocks your range down to exactly where it would be if you had gotten the same GPA without being on probation. You can get a 3.66 by fucking up your first semester or by being an A- student with a B or two thrown in -- doesn't matter. Schools care about your final GPA.

Righteous. Yeah, I figure since they can see my overall trend that it would be apparent where the probationary period took place.clintonius wrote:It knocks your range down to exactly where it would be if you had gotten the same GPA without being on probation.
