AA URM Chances at HYS?
3.5/164, African American male, first generation college graduate (T20), poverty background in downtown Chicago, strong volunteer work, and at least 1 very strong, personal letter from Vice chancellor of my UG. Been out of college for 4 years.
Are my #s too low for my chances?

Did the Vice Chancellor actually teach any of your courses or work directly with you in an academic capacity? If not, this might not be seen as a strong letter of recc. even if it says great things.
Honestly, AA males are really not common but I would think your LSAT is a bit on the low side for HYS.

You're not getting HYS w/ 3.4/163. Lower your standards.

Hmm if you can get your LSAT up to around 170 you'll have a decent shot at HYS.. any chance of a retake?

With a ~170 you've got an excellent chance. Otherwise blanket the T14 and see who bites. AA males are highly sought after and with a solid resume you could be in at any of them.

OP,
Check out these profiles:
http://lawschoolnumbers.com/iamgeorge34/jd
AA Male: 3.12/164 in at Harvard
http://lawschoolnumbers.com/RandomBlackGuy/jd
AA Male: 3.23/166 in at Harvard and Stanford
There are a few other AA females that got into Harvard with similar numbers. All this to say that at the end of the day, apply everywhere because you just never know what's possible. Just make sure to get those applications out EARLY and have an amazing applicant package (with a stellar personal statement and diversity statement and where applicable "Why X Law School") in your application.
Good luck to you!!!

^ Save the sighs. Those are from 04-05 and 05-06 cycles. Hate to be the one to have to tell you this, but law school's harder to get into now. Pick up a newspaper.
