3.92(Top Ivy)/173 Non-URM Male
What's my chances at HYS?
I double majored econ and a science and my GPA was within top 10% at a top Ivy UG.
Lab experience, a publication, internship at a law firm, and another pretty nice internship.

Gut reaction, I'd say your chances at H&S are pretty good. At least 50%.
Yale....who knows. It's worth a shot.

173 is about the median LSAT score at H, meaning that it is tad bit low for non-URM males.
Still think chances are pretty good at H?
Does having a science major and lab experience help?

Apply T14 and see who gives money and where you land.

if it were last cycle, i'd say waitlist at HS out at Y. This cycle, probably slightly more of a chance of getting in at HS
science major/lab experience wont matter enough to make a noticeable difference... but might give you an edge over someone w/ same #'s and a joke major

I'm curious as to why you think admissions standards would be lower for HLS this cycle than they were last cycle.capitalacq wrote:if it were last cycle, i'd say waitlist at HS out at Y. This cycle, probably slightly more of a chance of getting in at HS

To OP, I second that you will have an okay shot at Harvard although a waitlist wouldn't be surprising. Y and S are black boxes and anyone who says that they can give you even a good guess with the information that you've provided is full of it.

Just a very strong gut feeling.. HLS said something like 72% of its incoming class this year had 2+ years work experience because they are starting to prefer WE & the timing of the recession. I'd be willing to bet that this cycle won't be more competitiveSt.Remy wrote:I'm curious as to why you think admissions standards would be lower for HLS this cycle than they were last cycle.capitalacq wrote:if it were last cycle, i'd say waitlist at HS out at Y. Strong but not a lock at H, very possible at S, Y will depend on how you write your app and what day of the week they read your app. (Yes, Y can seem that random.)
You're in good enough shape, just don't screw up your PS or LORs, since those might be the deciding factor between you and a similar applicant.
