3.84/167 - GULC, UCLA, BU and the like...
3.84 & 167. Solid softs, solid LoR, non URM. Chances at t14-20ish?
I'm mainly interested in GULC, UCLA, and BU. Chances for acceptance / any money?
Hypothetically, any advice on taking money at BU or lower vs. paying sticker at GUCL or UCLA? (If I get in at all) Any thoughts on bigLaw prospects for GUCL and UCLA this year?

Georgetown is almost for sure a reject. Ucla is likely waitlist/reject. But you are pretty much a lock for BU with a little bit of money.

In at BU possibly with some money, but probably waitlisted at GULC and UCLA. Between BU with some money and GULC sticker it would be a tough choice, but because I would way rather have DC than Boston I would probably go with GULC. This would really depend on you however.

I really don't think your stats will get you into Georgetown. However, you should certainly have some success in that 15-25 range. BU will probably give you a decent scholarship.

GULC - out
UCLA - small chance, better with ED
BU - in with $ (probably ~$20k/yr)

OP here. I guess a more realistic scenario would be GW vs. BU/BC.
Other than just the DC vs. Boston preference, any major advantage with either?
Also, does it completely suck being at the 2nd best school in the city (no chance at HLS and probably out at GULC)?
Do you go through your whole law school career in the shadow of the city's t14?
I know the prestige of the institute obviously wouldn't compare, but are BU/BC or GW law grads treated with much respect, or are they simply seen as the people that didn't get into HLS and GULC?
Thanks for the feedback! I would also like some firsthand info of BU vs. BC but I'll read some existing posts before I waste anyone's time.

Are you looking for biglaw? Most Harvard graduates leave Boston and there aren't very many biglaw jobs in the Boston area. There are likely more BU and BC grads practicing in Boston than there are Harvard graduates. Now you still have to be top 1/4-1/5 at BU or BC to get biglaw but that area is pretty insulated. GULC and GW both have DC as their main target. But quite frankly, ITE, there isn't that big of a gap between GW and GULC in terms of placement. At both your chances won't be that great at biglaw.

3.85/167 from last cycle. Applied after the December test, and was WL at Penn, UVA, Duke, GULC, UCLA. In at Texas, USC with $, WashU with $$. Moral of the story: Those are WL numbers. Worth a retake if you can squeeze a few more points out.

I think people are being too negative. You have a shot at UCLA, and some of the T14 (I dunno about Georgetown).
Someone with your numbers got UCLA, Boalt, Penn, and Vandy last year: http://lawschoolnumbers.com/fomenting
Someone else got Boalt, too: http://lawschoolnumbers.com/stardrummer
Someone got Northwestern ED: http://lawschoolnumbers.com/Beach2540
Three people with your numbers got $105k at GW, which isn't a terrible deal if you want DC:
http://lawschoolnumbers.com/TEMSON
http://lawschoolnumbers.com/lptravelgirl
http://lawschoolnumbers.com/JuneJones
This other dude got $60k at BU: http://lawschoolnumbers.com/t912m
If I were you, I would blanket the T14 from Boalt down.

BU will give you $15,000-$20,000 per year. The wonderful thing about BU $$, is that they never do strings. The only requirement they put on it for the three years is "Good Standing", which means you don't fail out.

If you ED, you might even have a shot at Mich/Penn/NW/Duke. Probably not V though.

The only one ED he might have a shot at is UVA.

Definitely interested in biglaw, but knowing where I can realistically get in, I don't want to be dependent on biglaw to pay back loans. Seems like BU/BC is the better bet for biglaw?Patriot1208 wrote:Are you looking for biglaw? Most Harvard graduates leave Boston and there aren't very many biglaw jobs in the Boston area. RE: Cornell or WUSTL - I would much rather be in Boston, DC, or LA... Will Cornell or WUSTL give me significantly better opportunities than BU/BC? If they place grads in relatively similar situations, I'd prefer the location. If there's a nice advantage or big gap in school quality, I'd go with school over location.

These people telling you that you have shots at higher places are right, in the fact that you have A shot, but are wrong if they are implying it's anywhere above a 10% chance.

That's like 75th percentile for gpa and 1 point below median for lsat.

I think Patriot was mostly referring to the people who were suggesting that OP had a shot at MVP. Is it possible? Yes, but I'm not going to put any money on it. You are correct that OP would have a decent shot at Cornell (though again, not great).tazmolover wrote:3.84/167 doesn't have above a 10% chance at cornell?Patriot1208 wrote:These people telling you that you have shots at higher places are right, in the fact that you have A shot, but are wrong if they are implying it's anywhere above a 10% chance.

Ya, wasn't talking about Cornell. I should have clarified.St.Remy wrote:I think Patriot was mostly referring to the people who were suggesting that OP had a shot at MVP. Is it possible? I have a 3.86 and 167 so I'm in the same boat with you in that 15-20 range and possibly a t14. I did get a fee waiver from UCLA which surprises me being from Georgia. Right now, I'm pretty much aiming my sights at Vanderbilt and hoping for money with UGA as kind of my fall back school.

You would have been barely in at Vandy last year, but now you're 2 points below median instead of just 1. I'd retake if you reaaaallly want to go.tomcox10 wrote:I have a 3.86 and 167 so I'm in the same boat with you in that 15-20 range and possibly a t14.
