What do I need for UVA ED?
I've been studying for the last month or two for the lsat and my last PT was a 164. I'm hoping to apply ED to UVA when I get my score back from the December test. Some of the other factors are that I have a GPA near 4.0 and I'm also an out of state resident. I also have done quite a few neat extracurricular activities and I think I have some compelling reasons to attend law school in Virginia. What lsat score do you guys think I need to get in?

out of state with a 4.0 will probably need at least a 167. A 4.0 161 and 4.0 165 already got in ED but both were in state.

In-State/Out of State has no bearing at UVA. You need a 166.

40 percent of the places in our student body are historically reserved for residents of the Commonwealth of Virginia.

With no significant difference in stats required for ED admission.Patriot1208 wrote:lol, I hate when people make uninformed matter of fact statements.BU2013 wrote:In-State/Out of State has no bearing at UVA. You need a 166.

According to every single one of those dean interviews the schools also use holistic processes. They mean almost nothing. It's really a very simple philosophy. If 40% of the spots are reserved for Virginia residents that means that only 60% of the seats are available to the vast majority of candidates. This means that the odds are stacked in the favor of Virginia having to accept some less qualified Virginia residents than non-residents. And if you can't understand this you are in trouble for just about any job you have. Also, it's quite evident that this is the case when you look at LSN and see that all the low numbered non-urm people admitted were in state. Now could the OP get in with a 166+, another quick glance at LSN says this is a possibility, and I will admit I overestimated by one point. But your comments on being resident having no affect is just downright wrong and uninformed.

^The above is completely wrong and should be ignored. In-state is a significant advantage at UVA.BU2013 wrote:In-State/Out of State has no bearing at UVA. You need a 166.

As someone who got into UVA and observed several UVA cycles on here, I can say that this:jacko wrote:Any of our UVA students want to weigh in?
is absolutely and completely wrong. It's clear that it's easier for folks in-state to get in; the ratio of applicants to acceptances is something like 7:1 in state and greater than 30:1 for out of state. I've also heard of quite a few in-state applicants getting in with numbers below what would give an out-of-state applicant any chance of getting in.BU2013 wrote:In-State/Out of State has no bearing at UVA. With a GPA that high, you've got a strong case since UVA is really loving high GPAs right now; the problem is that you won't get your score back until January, making your application relatively late, and reducing your chances of getting in significantly if you apply RD. Admissions are rolling and by mid-January a number of seats will be filled, making it more competitive. You're likely to get WL'd if you apply RD that late, and the last two years in a row UVA has taken almost nobody off their WLs, making it a silent rejection.
I think if you were applying with a 166+ in September you'd have a strong shot at getting in even RD, but applying in mid-January your odds are much slimmer if you don't ED.

I am out of state and applied in late Dec/early Jan with a 166 and near-4.0 gpa. Accepted RD.

I think if I get a 166-168 I'm going to apply ED but a 169 and above I'll just apply RD and hope for some $ somewhere.

Re: What do I need for UVA ED?
I talked to the dean and he said the in state out of state thing is a huge advantage for in state (it was at a UVA law school fair). He said that their stats are slightly lower and they reject qualified out of state applicants all the time because of number restrictions. He said they get 700 in state applications for 40% of the class and 7000 out of state applications for 60% of the class.

You will most likely get in w/ a 4.0/166. I know several 1Ls who got in with those stats ED. You will get no scholarship money

I wouldn't ED with a 4.0/168+, which gives you a shot at CCN ED or possibly $ elsewhere.jacko wrote:I think if I get a 166-168 I'm going to apply ED but a 169 and above I'll just apply RD and hope for some $ somewhere.
