Splitter Odds at UVA ED
3.3/170 in Engineering from top public. No great softs but a couple interesting internships. I would be coming straght out of undergrad. Any thoughts are appreciated!

applying ASAP to give yourself as good a shot as possible I would say your chances are a little better than 50%. That is also assuming that UVA isn't going to shoot for a 171 median this cycle.slotwide wrote:3.3/170 in Engineering from top public. No great softs but a couple interesting internships. I have everything ready to go for the day the application comes out. Did you include a why UVA statement?

Re: Splitter Odds at UVA ED
Although 80% is pretty damn high, I think applying ED on Sept 1 makes a strong statement combined with your numbers, which are right there or if not at least right on the cusp. I think a short UVA statement about something specific you are enticed by (do some research on programs/professors--not hard if you use Hein Online for journal articles). Be careful not to right something flaky, though--if you are applying ED, it's a given you think it's a "great school with fantastic opportunities." If you are writing a GPA Addendum, be sure to play the personal responsibility angle. Again, I think overall you have some good odds. I'll be making the same move come next year w/ about the same numbers, so I wish you the best of luck. make moves

You mentioned the GPA addendum and I wasn't planning on writing one. Is this necessary?

No problem. And no, I don't think it's necessary, and I did not intend to suggest that you should (necessarily). In my case, though, I had one semester w/ a 2.0 and health problems, so I will be submitting a brief statement saying something like...slotwide wrote:You mentioned the GPA addendum and I wasn't planning on writing one. "I was sick. I didn't adapt to my circumstances appropriately. I failed to honor my obligations. I've since learned how to manage life complications when they conflict with my studies. Nonetheless, I know it's silly to write this since it won't really change things, but it makes me feel good inside to think you know who I really am and what I've gone through."
As you can see from the later, necessary doesn't quite articulate its inclusion. Obligatory, perhaps.

Depends on your GPA. If your GPA's a 3.85 or higher it can be in the lower 160s (mostly if you're a special snowflake who spoon-fed orphan kitties or something), but IIRC a normal person will probably want a 166. The higher the better.glcoupe wrote:What is the lowest lsat you can have to get in ED to UVA

If you have to ask, you aren't a special snowflake, regardless of what mummy dearest told you. I'll go with around 300 plus the numerical bottom 75% of Berkeley's class.lebroniousjames wrote:stratocophic wrote:Depends on your GPA. Re: Splitter Odds at UVA ED
I'm pessimistic and would go with about 85%, but really there isn't a sure way for us to know. If you apply in early September, I honestly can't think of a reason why they'd reject you. Your situation was tailor-made for ED. IP kids make their placement look good, ED is the best way for them to get engineers, and you've had internships you can talk about. Apply early, and best of luck.Desert Fox wrote:95%slotwide wrote:Strato

Are you in-state? If so, this increases your odds even more.
Also, the simple fact that you're applying ED should be a sufficient "Why UVA" statement.

I wouldn't worry too much about not having any w/e. You should be good, just apply early.slotwide wrote:I am out of state... and my other worry is I am coming straight out of undergrad with no work experience.. but then again this isn't NU

say you got a 4.03 UGPA. would like a mid to low 160's get you in or what is the cut off line.

Re: Splitter Odds at UVA ED
There is no actual cut off point but that being said low 160's will probably not cut it. Probably need at least a 166 for ED.

Re: Splitter Odds at UVA ED
To OP: 170/3.3/EE is about 75-80% in via ED, I think.
162 to have any chance at all, 166 to have a greater than 50% chance, that's ED for both.glcoupe wrote:say you got a 4.03 UGPA. would like a mid to low 160's get you in or what is the cut off line.
