What do I need (MVP)?
Right now I have a 3.7/168. I am retaking in Oct, which will be my third attempt.
Question is... What do I need in Oct. to have a pretty decent chance at MVP (especially P)?
I looked on LSN but its hard to tell where the cutoff is, and it doesn't really factor in who had retakes.
I have marginal softs except for some good WE.

I got in to MVP with a 3.76/167. I'm in-state, which may have helped, and I also applied early (end of Sept.)
edit: I should mention, I only got in to one of MVP, but I also only applied to one

Re: What do I need (MVP)?
Your best bet at present is M, then V, then P.
For Penn, the GPA/LSAT median is 3.82/170, which puts you in the 25%-50% for both numbers. Not the best chance, but not the worst.
In general, my theory for when you're below the median in one number is that you compensate by being above in the other. An LSAT score in the 50%-75% should make you a safe candidate, and a 170 or 171 is all you need to hit this range. Anything above will make you a lock.
None of these schools care about retakes.

If LSN is truly indicative of app trends, it's very possible that the median for Penn 2013 will rise to 171.
If the medians are 3.8+/171 for this next class, that would mean that I was accepted with 14k/yr at Penn with numbers below both medians. Lesson being, it's not just pure numbers.

FWIW:
25% 50% 75%
M: 3.55 3.70 3.84
167 169 170
V: 3.54 3.85 3.92
165 170 171
P: 3.57 3.82 3.9
166 170 171
V is where the in-state bump really counts. M probably a little more-so than P, but I've found they don't really care about residency. Your best bet is at M because it's the only school you hit the median at with your GPA.

You'll need a 170 for a nonzero shot at P and V, and a 169-170 for a decent chance at M.

Re: What do I need (MVP)?
I got waitlisted at M with a retake 173 and a 3.75, and in with >50% money at V and P. Odd.

You need to get 170+ to have a chance at V, unless you're in-state. Probably need 170+ for a good shot at M and P, too.

Re: What do I need (MVP)?
Yeah, but the 3.9 makes all the difference. Your GPA was above median, OP's is below. Thus OP needs an at/above median LSAT even though you didn't.blowhard wrote:I got into M with $ with a 3.9/168.

Actually, OP is at median for M. He is below 75th.vanwinkle wrote:Yeah, but the 3.9 makes all the difference. Your GPA was above median, OP's is below. Thus OP needs an at/above median LSAT even though you didn't.blowhard wrote:I got into M with $ with a 3.9/168.

Re: What do I need (MVP)?
Wow, I thought the median for M was higher than that. My mistake; OP has a shot at Michigan then, possibly (assuming they don't manage to raise their median).blowhard wrote:Actually, OP is at median for M. Re: What do I need (MVP)?
Thanks for the responses. Should I apply early and then update with oct score, or does that risk a quick rejection. If I put that I am retaking will they hold off until I update, or is it all the same to just submit everything at once when I get the score?

If you apply and indicate you are taking in Oct they won't put you in the pile until then anyhow.OrdinarilySkilled wrote:Thanks for the responses.
