Chance Me (171/3.99)
I know what LSN says. I like the personal advice, too, since you people know so damn much. I'll have a good LOR lineup with a good PS and average softs. I have a 171/3.99. Applying to:
Harvard
Stanford
Berkeley
Duke
Cornell
Georgetown
WUSTL
UO
Harvard
Stanford
Berkeley
Duke
Cornell
Georgetown
WUSTL
UO

Ok. Why? And do you have any suggestions for which schools to apply to instead?

I wouldn't put too much weight, if any, in what one, anonymous person says (talking about the cross out thing).
As far as your chances go, you'll be in everywhere except for Stanford and Harvard. Stanford straight reject, Harvard WL. Should get a decent scholarship from at least one of the other top schools. GULC will offer a paltry sum, if anything at all.

Well I mean I would apply to columbia, nyu, chicago, and pennin addition to the others I predicted for you. It really depends on goals, money, location and other things though. So I don't know about for you

Don't know why SLS would be a straight reject, as the school emphasizes GPA over LSAT. I'd say OP has a good shot, although SLS admissions are a black box.sundevil77 wrote:I wouldn't put too much weight, if any, in what one, anonymous person says (talking about the cross out thing).

OP, why no Yale?

Re: Chance Me (171/3.99)
I just figured I had no shot at Yale. Didn't want to waste money or time. Maybe that's dumb (likely). Should I reconsider?BioEBear2010 wrote:Don't know why SLS would be a straight reject, as the school emphasizes GPA over LSAT. Yale is the biggest, blackest box of them all. I applied last year and was admitted with worse stats than you.dooterdude11 wrote: I just figured I had no shot at Yale. Didn't want to waste money or time. Maybe that's dumb (likely). Should I reconsider?

Re: Chance Me (171/3.99)
From what I have gathered on here, GPA and LSAT aren't good enough for Stanford. I was under the impression that you need some impressive softs. OP said that his softs were average. I had 171/4.0 with average softs and got the straight reject. Thus, my prediction.BioEBear2010 wrote:Don't know why SLS would be a straight reject, as the school emphasizes GPA over LSAT. And Yale? Really? If you feel like throwing $100 after a <1% chance of getting in is a good investment, then go ahead.
GULC is notoriously stingy with scholarship money. They typically offer 0k to 30k schollys to people that are getting 60k schollys to Duke, UVA, Penn, Mich, etc.IAFG wrote:oh?sundevil77 wrote:I wouldn't put too much weight, if any, in what one, anonymous person says (talking about the cross out thing).

Ok, thanks for the good advice.
My greatest wish is to go to either Stanford or Berkeley. I'm a West Coast guy. Anyone have advice for how to appeal to those two specifically in the app?
Thanks again everyone.

Re: Chance Me (171/3.99)
Both schools like GPA and "softs." The problem is that everything that is not GPA/LSAT is by definition a soft. You need to write compelling essays (personal statement, diversity statement), acquire strong LORs, and present yourself in a good light. It's hard to say what will appeal to them without knowing your history.dooterdude11 wrote: My greatest wish is to go to either Stanford or Berkeley. I'm a West Coast guy. I agree with Superman. You have a very decent shot at CCN P & they're much preferable as backups to Duke, Georgetown, WUSTL & UO. (preferable in terms of decent employment after graduation, not location.)thecilent wrote:Well I mean I would apply to columbia, nyu, chicago, and pennin addition to the others I predicted for you. you have about a 1/7 shot at yale and stanford.
i'll make another post later regarding scholly money.
