Columbia ED, in or out? tough call at 3.86/171
So purely on numbers with a 3.86/171 from top 20 UG do you think I would get into Columbia ED?

I have a 3.88 168 and am going to ED to Columbia as a super reach. Honestly, with those numbers, I think you stand a chance at acceptance but likely WL. I'm hoping to sneak on to the waitlist by showing them how much I want it with a day 1 app ED. Good luck!

If you put together a good ap I think you are in. You have a top quartile GPA and your LSAT is only one point below their median. I might even consider applying w/o ED if I were you. Columbia's numbers:
3.6-3.81 (3.69 med)
170-175 (172 med)
3.6-3.81 (3.69 med)
170-175 (172 med)

I'd say you're probably in ED, and probably (but certainly not surely) out RD. Voted accepted.
Since it seems like you're having trouble making the decision: whatever happens you're getting into a great school. And you might consider visiting Columbia if you haven't already, it might help you make the decision. It could also help with the PS--can say you checked out the school to confirm ED was right decision or some such. Good luck.

Theanswer, where are you getting these medians from? CLS website? I've been looking for a website that lists the medians for tier 1 schools...

OP, I think you have decent chances both with and without ED. If you really want to go to Columbia, ED. It certainly can't hurt your chances, although I'm not sure how much it really helps at CLS..

Your chances at HYS are pretty slim, so I'd say ED'ing to get your spot in CLS is a wise decision.

My money says you're in.
Frankly, I'd be shocked if you were rejected. A waitlist would be surprising, unless you had absolutely nothing going on in UG. I'd think Columbia would like to lock up a 3.86 with an LSAT above their 25th percentile.
I'd even give you about 40% odds of getting in RD, knowing nothing else about you but your numbers. With ED I'd say 80%.

so with decent softs (frat president? ibanking internship, holding a unique fundraiser) i've gotta be close to a lock ED right? Certainly guaranteed at least deferral? and the yield from columbia at my UG was pretty bad last cycle (12 admits, only 3 matriculated) which should help right?

I got in ED last year with a 3.82, 171, so you've got a good shot. Doesn't matter when you send the app.

I'm close to a numbers twin, but have a 170 on the LSAT... would you guys say I have a shot at the ED?
Similar to OP, I realize my shot at HYS is slim, so I'm trying to see how I can maximize my shot at CCN.
Will have 2 yrs WE at matriculation, good softs (but I guess everyone says that).

3.86/171 ED is a tough call. If you said NYU, I could believe it, but CLS is way more into softs and shit. Just look at the 2010 medians. CLS and NYU are now the same. Given CLS selectivity, that means numbers aint enough. ED CLS, but I think you are likely deferred or reject, not admit (barring kick ass softs).

I think OP and you are both not that likely to get Columbia or Chicago. Not that you couldn't but it's unlikely. But an NYU ED is probably getting you in there so I would do that.hellojd wrote:I'm close to a numbers twin, but have a 170 on the LSAT... would you guys say I have a shot at the ED?

i would say ED sven because even though you rock their gpa, columbia places a huge emphasis on LSAT.
