Odds at Penn ED
I am an engineering major with a 3.3 and 170 from a top public university only real softs are two solid internships. Wondering if I have any chance at Penn ED or should I ED to a little more realistic option like UVA or maybe even Michigan? I Would like to work in the DC area upon graduation. Appreciate any input.

Your chances look a little iffy. Last cycle Penn took a 3.21/171 ED, but 171 happens to be at the 75th percentile of their LSAT...that one point, plus a very strong application, may have made all the difference. I would throw that ED to Michigan if I were you, since their 25-75 for GPA AND LSAT are lower than Penn's; also, Michigan seems to be a *little* kinder towards engineers (I feel that schools with good engineering programs tend to have a better idea of the rigor/grade deflation involved).

I would say you have a 20% chance (that might be generous) at UPenn.
Besides, if you want to practice in DC, UVA and Georgetown would be your best LS choices. Personally, an ED to one of those two schools would make the most sense in my mind.

Would it be tough to get to the DC market coming from Penn?

Would GULC really be better than Penn for DC?
Regardless, going off of the limited data on LSN, you have better odds of getting into UVA.
Last year people with the following stats got into UVA ED:
170: 3.19, 3.32, 2.99
171: 3.24, 3.36
You still have a shot at Penn though. Why not ED at Penn, then if you get rejected, ED at UVA?

Yes, take a look at the upcoming deadlines for ED for Penn and UVA. If this coming application season is like last year's, you can ED to Penn, and then if Penn waitlists or rejects you, you can ED to UVA (they had a later deadline).

In general though, does Penn place well in DC?

You'll want to go to the Penn students taking questions thread and poke around a bit or perhaps throw the question up there. To be sure, Penn places better in DC than the vast majority of schools, but UVA very well might place in DC better yet. You should talk to people at or from Penn though about this sort of thing--and not some damn old fart who doesn't understand the new economic reality of pain and suffering for even those at top schools.
