165 - 3.43 - Colorado Resident - ED to CU boulder

Post by shock259 » Sun Jul 25, 2010 12:53 pm

I applied last cycle regular decision (late) with a 3.4 and a 161. Rejected. Writing new PS and a "Why Colorado" essay, got a new LOR, raised LSAT, raised GPA. Colorado resident. Will be applying at beginning of November.

Thoughts? LSN says yes. LSP says says 54%.

OP, as far as I can tell CU Boulder does not offer an ED option, but the book I have is one year out of date.

Your numbers look OK. CU should give you a bump for residency. If apply early and write the optional essay then I would think you have a pretty good shot.

Good luck.

It's new as of Fall 2009.

OP, I think you have a decent chance. LSAT at 75th percentile, GPA below 25th percentile. CU is not as splitter-friendly as its peer schools, but ED might offset that.

Thanks guys.

There probably won't be an appreciable difference in applying ED right when the app opens (Oct 1) vs a few weeks before it closes (Nov 1), will there? I'm contemplating retaking the October LSAT because I was PTing at 168-172 before I got my 165. I know I can do better, but I would also be happy at CU.

If I wait to ED until November 1, I could see my scores on the October test. If they were 170+ then I could apply elsewhere and RD to CU (maybe ED to UVA). If they were about the same, I could still ED to CU.

Other option is to not retake. But then if I don't get in, I will have screwed myself for another cycle (there aren't really any other peer schools in regions that I would be comfortable living/practicing in).

I don't think, for ED purposes, the difference between October and November is significant.

Update: my LSAT dream failed. I just don't have the time to seriously study between my fulltime paralegal job and other expectations. I'm going to be applying September 1stish. I had some conflicting info before, so I'm doing a new personal statement right now as quickly as I can. That's the only other piece of my application, so I'm guessing I'll probably have it done and ready by September 7th.

Any new opinions on how likely I am to get in? :) I checked the CU website and they are now publishing 164 as their median. Eek.
