If he has a lot of work experience, it may make up for the lower GPA. He should apply to UGA. If he applies early, he might get some decent money and UGA is cheap to begin with.

A more pertinent question is where does he / you want to be? Where does your family want to practice? He will be accepted to very nice regional schools, so pick someplace you want to be for a while.

3.06/165.
W/L @ W&M. In-state scholly at UGA. Sometimes is scary how much other people on this board know O.o
Although maybe they just go to LSN.
I agree with previous poster- apply to UGA. It and Emory are top dogs in one of the best markets ( in terms of employability). If you think you might like atlanta, I think that would be a great choice. Oh, and UGA is in Athens, which is an AWESOME place.

Thanks you guys! I have read a lot about Emory and have been sneaking it into as many conversations with him as possible since so many people find it a great school.

he has a really good list.brokenwindows wrote:He is looking at SMU, U of H, U of Texas (we're in Texas if you couldn't tell), U of Wisconson-Madison, U of Iowa, U of Minnesota, College of William and Mary, and whatever else looks attainable. He's got quite a list forming of other schools to apply, but narrowing it down is not easy, plus neither of us is sure of how many schools he should send applications to. Also moving is not a problem.
unrealistic reach: texas, w&m, minnesota, emory
target: iowa, indiana
safety: smu, houston

His interests in law shouldn't matter TOO much at this stage. Try applying to UNC and UGA. You might be able to get fee waivers out of them.brokenwindows wrote:So what about fee waivers and such from these schools? William and Mary and Minnesota have sent them but from what I've read it seems like a numbers game from these kinds of things.
Yeah, defintely UT is totally out of the question (we know since since we live in the state). HA!
Indiana huh? I'll have to let him know about that one. Thanks!!!
He's interested in International and Environmental Law. I'm just interested in being able to find a decent paying teaching job for a couple of years while he's in school.

UGA! I have family near the school that I never get to see, so that would be a great thing. I haven't suggested NC yet. I will get right to it.

fee waivers don't mean really mean much. to be honest i gave schools like iowa and indiana are target schools and smu is a safety, but smu is just as good, if not better due to smu's location. i think you all's decision will eventually come down to smu (which will likely give you ~60k in scholly money leaving about 66k in total tuition to be paid) and houston, which will not likely give any money, placing total tuition to be paid at ~66k. i don't know where you two are living in texas but if you are in dallas i would say just go to smu, if you are in houston, you'll have a tough decision to make. anywhere else in texas that will make it impossible for him to commute to either dallas or houston from home, just go to smu. outside of schools like emory, wustl, gw, Notre dame, illinois, fordham, bc, and bu, smu is probably the best option.brokenwindows wrote:So what about fee waivers and such from these schools? Anybody else think that this was gonna be a snub of some school because of "gettting"?

If you don't mind moving I think UGA would be an awesome option.
edit: not so easy to get in though =(

Ask him what International Law is and you'll get your answer.brokenwindows wrote:kalvano wrote:Disabuse him of that notion.brokenwindows wrote:He's interested in International Law.

This is very credited and probably the best NC option if you are coming from out of state.kalvano wrote:Also, Wake Forest in NC will like him.
