3.0 GPA / 171 LSAT
Wondering if I have any chance at a t14 school; decent softs (internship, volunteer work) but nothing exceptional. My GPA has a sharp upswing (around a 1.5 for my first two years, 3.92/4.0 GPA in my two majors' upper-level coursework). Had some personal problems at the beginning of my college life, but two years' worth of bad grades seems like an awful lot to explain away in an addendum. Thanks in advance for your help.

Are you still in school, or are you out and have some work experience?Jhouse22 wrote:Wondering if I have any chance at a t14 school; decent softs (internship, volunteer work) but nothing exceptional. If you have work experience, Northwestern is your best bet; apply ED if you're willing to pay sticker.
If no work experience (or even if you prefer) it's worth a shot at EDing to UVA, they can be somewhat splitter friendly. It's a longer shot than NW w/WE, and you'd still probably be paying sticker. Make sure you do it early, they'll get back to you in two weeks and you can reevaluate your cycle after that (and perhaps ED elsewhere). This assumes they'll have the same ED program they did last year.
Those are you best, and perhaps only, bets at making T14. You can and should apply anywhere you're willing to spend the money on the application fee for, of course, but don't get your hopes up.

Re: 3.0 GPA / 171 LSAT
Thanks for the advice. I'm straight out of undergrad (still finishing my degree), and I was thinking I'd give UVA a shot.
On a related but separate note, I'm writing my PS about my first two years undergrad; pretty much the reason for my poor grades and how they shaped my character. I don't need an addendum about my low GPA if it's already addressed in my PS, correct?
