You should write an LSAT addendum explaining how [generic and unverifiable excuse X] resulted in your sub par performance on the first LSAT.

Relatively new here. CCN I assume you mean - Cornell, Chicago, Northwestern? So far I've only figured out HYS.

Definitely plan on doing that since the 164 is so low.KibblesAndVick wrote:You should write an LSAT addendum explaining how [generic and unverifiable excuse X] resulted in your sub par performance on the first LSAT.

You'll get at least one with that LSAT.trudat15 wrote:oppotomus wrote:CCN - Columbia, Chicago, NYU

ehhh not necessarily. chicago and columbia are both fickle and NYU doesn't like retakes. i would ED chicago if i were him, or just apply broadly for $lawls wrote:You'll get at least one with that LSAT.trudat15 wrote:oppotomus wrote:CCN - Columbia, Chicago, NYU

Do you think applying broadly RD would allow me to get $ from any of these schools? I thought I barely had a chance at them as it is (hence the ED).IAFG wrote:ehhh not necessarily. chicago and columbia are both fickle and NYU doesn't like retakes. i would ED chicago if i were him, or just apply broadly for $lawls wrote:You'll get at least one with that LSAT.trudat15 wrote:oppotomus wrote:CCN - Columbia, Chicago, NYU

I've heard NYU doesnt like retakes, which is why I was leaning towards Columbia, but do I have a better shot at Chicago (the reason you would ED Chicago if you were me?)
Thanks for any and all advice.

Yah you're right I looked at LSN and it isn't a lock that one will accept. A good chance, though, especially with an ED.IAFG wrote:ehhh not necessarily. chicago and columbia are both fickle and NYU doesn't like retakes. i would ED chicago if i were him, or just apply broadly for $lawls wrote:You'll get at least one with that LSAT.trudat15 wrote:oppotomus wrote:CCN - Columbia, Chicago, NYU

Yes, but they evaluate based on the average score in most cases. The Committee may take special circumstances into account. If a candidate can point out specific reasons why the Committee should consider an LSAT score aberrant, they should detail those reasons in an addendum to the personal statement.

I don't see how this means that they 'don't like retakes.' They simply average them unless given a reason not to. How is this any different from something like Columbia or Harvard? Do people with multiple scores do worse than their average would suggest at NYU?

It's kind of a trend many people have seen over application cycles.sven wrote:I don't see how this means that they 'don't like retakes.' They simply average them unless given a reason not to. Here are three retaker examples from the graph on LSN (http://nyu.lawschoolnumbers.com/stats):
http://lawschoolnumbers.com/wjnahill/jd
http://lawschoolnumbers.com/chutzpah/jd
http://lawschoolnumbers.com/LieutKaffee/jd
They are little red dots in an otherwise green field.

chutzpah was already rejected by the time s/he retook the LSAT. NYU agreed to reconsider the rejection, but this was already in March.. LieutKaffee doesn't say anything about retaking the LSAT and his/her scores aren't exactly stellar for NYU anyway. The only one that seems shocking is wjnahill, but I'm sure there are plenty of examples of people getting in with 2 scores that would outweigh whatever doubts this would give a retaker.rx3r wrote:Here are three retaker examples from the graph on LSN (http://nyu.lawschoolnumbers.com/stats):

GPA is a little low for Columbia. Decent shot at NYU and Chicago (by no means a lock though). Decent shot at money from MVP (mich, Virginia, Penn).
I had 3 takes this past cycle with one a 174 and a 3.55 and I was shutout of CCN (wl'd at all), wl at mich, held-->rejected at Penn and 20k/yr at UVA.

I had a 3.42 and a 166 -> 175 and uh, it didn't go so well haha.

Look LieutKaffee up on TLS; he retook (I know him from our shared admission cycle).sven wrote:chutzpah was already rejected by the time s/he retook the LSAT. I'm just trying to help you see a pattern. You can choose to ignore it. However, I feel like the majority of retakers that apply to NYU will have their scores averages from anecdotal evidence on LSN and TLS. Apply if you want, but I wouldn't waste an ED application w/ a retake. Btw, LieutKaffee was something like a 152 --> 172.

OK: here's a person w/ stats that seem similar to yours.
http://lawschoolnumbers.com/kap36
(It doesn't say retake in the profile, but it comes up when you search for retakes only on LSN)
