176/3.84 decent softs
Hey all
just wanted some opinion on my shots at:
Columbia
NYU
UPenn
Fordham
Cardozo
I have a 3.84 from top ranked private (but not Ivy) university, a 176 LSAT and the usual student leadership/community service/honors program/study abroad softs (nothing remarkable but they're there) as well as work experience as a paralegal and decent LORs
any feedback would be appreciated (as I'm in the process of getting my app packets together so as to be ready before the apps are released)

Pretty sure a 176/3.84 is in at all those places. Why not throw apps to YHS as well? Pretty sure you'd have a decent shot at getting one.

Shoot for HYS, pretty sure you'll get one of the 3

Um, you're missing 3 schools on that list.

Enjoy Harvard. Toss one to Yale, though.

due to a family situation I have to live at home which is not in commutable distance to HYS or anything but NYC/NJ schoolsReply with quote

applying to only two schools (CLS and NYU) just doesnt seem prudent hence why i added the other lower ranked ones
additionally i'm applying right out of undergrad and i realize that can perhaps hurt chances (?) not too sure about that

In that case, I think you're in at Columbia with an excellent chance at that big scholarship they do.
Might ought to apply to H / Y / S for leverage.

Isn't Yale, like, the same distance from NYC as UPenn?

Oooh I see. Okay... applying right out of undergrad won't matter. Congrats on those killer stats by the way.bistduverrueckt wrote:due to a family situation I have to live at home which is not in commutable distance to HYS or anything but NYC/NJ schoolsReply with quote

+1. Even if your not going to go to HYS, acceptance there can give you great leverage to negotiate additional $$kalvano wrote:In that case, I think you're in at Columbia with an excellent chance at that big scholarship they do.

OP, if you have the money you should apply to at least H anyway. You may end up negotiating for a scholarship.

Re: 176/3.84 decent softs
I would mention your preference for studying in NYC and area in your PS. Your numbers give you a good shot (80-90%?) to get into at least one of HYS, so showing you'd actually prefer Columbia/NYU/Penn--while keeping the options of other schools open--should make the schools more willing to up their recruitment/$$$ efforts. Since your geographic area doesn't lock you into one school, this makes it especially effective to mention your geographic preferences.
As noted, you are a lock for your listed schools; only thing you have to fear are major application flaws (offensive PS, horrible LORs...)

That's the name of the scholarship I was thinking of.
