158/4.03 -Philadelphia/Charlotte Area
I'm an accounting/finance major from Philadelphia planning to apply this fall. I got a 158 in June which was rather disappointing, I got 14 wrong in the first logical reasoning ( I must have been really nervous) and did alright after that point. I went through the lr lg bibles very quickly 2 months before and took a few practice tests...probably should've done more. That being said, I am retaking in October and plan to do more practice tests this time; I'd like to break 160 this time, and am confident that I can, I got in the 160's (164 or 165) on a practice test or 2 before.
I have a 4.03 lsdas gpa, as lsac just received my transcript today. I am probaly going to go into some kind of corporate or tax law in the future...and idealy would work in a corporation's legal department some day. I was going to wait til October to post in this thread but work got to boring today (I have 1.5 years experience in accounting).
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Initially, I would've liked to go to a school like UNC/Wake Forest/Duke, because I have visited Charlotte and would really like to live down there some day, I just don't have the LSAT score right now/nor am I going to plan to have it October, but I will try. Thus, it appears I'll probably end up being in the Philadelphia area; Villanova would be my preference over Temple. A big scholarship at Nova would be awesome; anyone know how they are with Aid?
Merit money is very important to me, I don't want to be in debt coming out of law school and would like to keep my my debt under 50/60,000...so I would like to know where I could go/should shoot for/prepare to apply to that will give me best price.....I do not want to pay sticker and want to pay as little as possible. I will barely have any debt after undergraduate and would like to be in the same situation after law school if possible as well.
Thanks

How about Drexel even if you don't do much better? You could probs get some $$ there

I'm considering Drexel; it's where I am doing my undergrad; not sure if I could do another 3 years in West Philly. I am not opposed to Drexel law, it would take a good amount of money though and would have to be as less expensive than Temple/Villanova for me. I have been inside the law school and was initially in their BS/JD program; it's a nice school. Do you go there?scrowell wrote:How about Drexel even if you don't do much better? No but I know someone who did undergrad there and really liked it. And I was considering it until I got a 153. Plus, the Fresh Prince was born and raised in West Philadelphia so that's a big time plus.nillumin wrote:I'm considering Drexel; it's where I am doing my undergrad; not sure if I could do another 3 years in West Philly. True, but after a while, West Philly starts to wear on you...that's why the Fresh Prince moved to Bel-Airscrowell wrote: No but I know someone who did undergrad there and really liked it. Drexel's new building is nice ... walked by there today. West Philly as we know it (actually University City) is so much better than it was 10 years ago!

Is there a reason you'd rather go to Nova then Temple? Because Temple is crazy cheap instate. Also, in terms of scholarship aid, I got $$$ from Temple and nothing from Nova.
Drexel's still really iffy because it's so new, especially compared to the alumni networks that Nova and Temple have in the city.

If you get your lsat into the low 160s, you have a good chance at wake. For unc its still a toss up. Get it to 164 and you are looking at at some good money from wake and probably in at unc (or in if you are instate). You dont need to change your plans until your second lsat score. I bumped my 158 to a 164. Those 6 points open up so many doors and $.nillumin wrote: Initially, I would've liked to go to a school like UNC/Wake Forest/Duke, because I have visited Charlotte and would really like to live down there some day, I just don't have the LSAT score right now/nor am I going to plan to have it October, but I will try.

Villanova is on the main line, Temple is on broad streetmanbearwig wrote:Is there a reason you'd rather go to Nova then Temple? Because Temple is crazy cheap instate. .

But yeah, the price difference is obscene. Too bad Temple isn't going to the waitlist this year, or I'd probably be there. Oh well, Nova it is!

there is no reason why you shouldn't retake you lsat.
do it.
you have 2 more chances, don't settle for under a 170 man. seriously.

I personally think Nova would be a better school to go to for business law. I have met several successful tax lawyers from there. They have great alumni network in the business world. I'm sure Temple is good too though....but as someone else said, Nova is on the main line, and I would prefer to get out of Philadelphia after next year.manbearwig wrote:Is there a reason you'd rather go to Nova then Temple? I know. Getting a 158 really hurt and it definitely limited my options as far as what I want to do. Hopefully Octobers test goes my way....just bought some new prep materials, will get back to preparing for it come next week.mistergoft wrote:there is no reason why you shouldn't retake you lsat.

Ugh. Yea I know. The things I would do for a 165-170....I really hope October goes my way....it would really alter the schools I could consider/money I could get.moandersen wrote:If you get your lsat into the low 160s, you have a good chance at wake.
