I suspect that regardless of softs you do have some reasonable shot at Chicago and Penn, and that you should get accepted to several of your targets. Law admissions is very much a numbers game from what I have seen, and you have very strong numbers. With your GPA it might not even hurt to put in applications to the top three (HYS)-especially at S, I suspect your numbers make up a fairly common student profile even among non-URM students (I have the impression that S is willing to take a lower 170s LSAT as long as there is a high GPA- moreso than Y or H. I do think Y and H are prob unrealistic options without increased LSAT; that may be true for S too, but IMO what not give it a shot?). Of course Law School Numbers and the other predictive/ statistically-related law admissions sites are probably your best shot for a realistic chances estimate).

Thanks for the reply, lawquacious. yeah i have checked out those sites, i just wasn't sure howmuch my softs of lack thereof would hurt me. so what do you (or anyone else?) think about the ed to chicago? and would a retake/173ish really make hys reasonable?

I would say apply to Stanford, as you have a chance since they do seem to look more favorably upon high GPAs (I think you would have a particularly good chance if you upped your score to a 173). About EDing to Chicago: it depends on to what degree you're willing to go there. If you look on Law School Numbers there are quite a few with your numbers getting decent scholarships to some of your target schools. If scholarships are a factor for you, I might refrain from EDing.

All this being said, I haven't gone through an application cycle so my opinion is primarily based on what I've been able to accrue by lurking around on these forums. Good luck.

Chicago ED might make sense, but only if you're willing to pay sticker there over scholarships at other schools, and you don't mind possibly giving up Stanford and Columbia, both of which you have a shot at.

So, you think that because money at lower t-14s is probable and stanford and columbia are at least slim chances, the ed is unncessary? how are my rd chances at chicago? and is at least one of duke, michigan, georgetown going to offer admittance and cash?

IF you get it in at Michigan (which looks likely, but after this last cycle I wouldn't call anywhere a lock, really...) you will definitely get money. Prob around 15/yr with ur numbers.

Someone with your numbers from last cycle received $67,500 from Duke and $45,000 from Penn, yet got waitlisted at Chicago, Columbia, and HYS without any ED.

I think your chances at Chicago are decent- my prediction is that you get in- you have good stats in terms of GPA and LSAT for Chicago.
You're in the other schools. You may not need to apply ED to Chicago but you're not a sure thing there- so if you really want the school and are willing to pay sticker, it would make sense to apply early decision.

Just apply early. I applied with Feb LSAT score (exact same score and gpa) and only got accepted close to April by Michigan and nowhere else. You will get the $45k (3 years total) deans scholarship and all loans. If you want to get in Penn, apply early and your numbers should be good enough. If you have your heart set on Penn you can always ED there I think you can def. get in.
