My Chances?
Hi Guys, I have been lurking on this site and this is my first post, please help me out:
Undergrad: HYP, 3.6 gpa (extreme upward trend: 1st year, 2.8 gpa; 2nd year, 3.4 gpa, 3rd year, 3.9 gpa, 4th year, 4.0 gpa)
Academic distinctions: Received all of the major distinctions: award for highest gpa of the year (the 4.0 final year), award for best senior thesis written and currently under a prestigious post-graduate scholarship to study in one of the Oxford-Cambridge schools (UK).
URM/Diversity: Non-American, came from a third-world country to study in the US four years ago. Family does not live here and English is my second language. I speak 4 other languages besides English.
Soft Factors: Writing a non-fiction book (out in Feb 2011), wrote a chapter in another non-fiction book (2006). Started a US based company in 2008. Other regional and international internships.
LSAT: Taking in October, currently averaging at 171.
My dream schools:
YLS
HLS
SLS
CLS
Would be really grateful if you let me know my chances. Thanks so much!

Your soft factors are amazing, but your numbers are low, especially for Y, H, and S. I say in at CLS and HLS, toss-up at YLS and SLS because of the low numbers.

Probably should clarify what is your ethnic background to consider URM.bostonman123 wrote:Hi Guys, I have been lurking on this site and this is my first post, please help me out:

HYS are not happening with a 3.6 GPA, regardless of LSAT. Your best bet is Columbia but you'd need to hit 172 since your GPA is below median. Similarly, you'll need a 171 for Chicago and NYU.

Agreed, 3.5 GPA + H UG is probably shut out, but if you have 3.6, H UG and score 175+ you probably have a decent shot at HLS.
However if your only at 171, 172 the low GPA won't get you in because your bringing down both medians. Try your best on the LSAT OP.

Great softs. The book thing in particular is really cool if it works out. For an ordinary resume 3.6 + low 170's LSAT is looking at MVP. CCN seems very reasonable given your experience. It's possible HYS would take a stab at you but certainly not guaranteed. LSAT over 175 would be crucial.
