4.0/173
Hi All!
First off, I just wanted to say thanks to everyone here at TLS. I just got my LSAT score yesterday, and it was much better than I expected. I want to say that TLS was a great resource for my studying, and it has really helped me so far in prepping for the admissions process.
That said, I'm now trying to figure out my application strategy for the fall, and any thoughts you might have would be really helpful. I'm pretty debt-averse, so I'm trying to figure out some places where I might be able to get a large-ish scholarship to help reduce the costs. I've tried searching LSN, but most of the people around my numbers seem to have pretty good softs, and to be honest, I don't really have all that much there. I'm not sure how that will affect scholarships, but if you could weigh in that'd be great!
If it helps for finding schools, I should mention that I'm most interested in DC or Chicago for markets and I'd like to clerk if possible and then follow that with biglaw for a few years.
Schools I'm particularly interested in are:
Penn
Chicago
Michigan
Virginia
Of course, I'm open to suggestions if you have any. Thanks everyone!

You are either being falsely modest or you are a flame.
4.0/173 has a great shot at HYS and is a virtual lock at CCN.

And someone with a 4.0/173 (especially one who spends time on TLS) doesn't need to ask where he should apply.

Well thank you for your confidence. I don't mean to sound ungrateful or anything, but I'm just not sure I feel comfortable taking out that kind of debt, even though those are great schools! I was just wondering if you had any thoughts on where I might be able to reduce my debt a little. I do appreciate your responses though guys!

One solution: don't go to law school.
Another: blanket the T14 and see what happens.

You want to clerk, yet you don't want to apply to HYS even though you have a shot at all of them? Ummm... Okay.
You could probably get a Darrow at Michigan and maybe some good scholly money outside of the T3.

Yeah if your looking for a full scholarship the marginal cost of applying to a school is much lower than benefit of maximizing chance at major $$$$ determine the worst school you would be willing to go to and apply at every school above

Re: 4.0/173
This. Scholarships aren't predictable like many admission decisions are. You just need to apply pretty much everywhere, fee waiver or not. Even if it's a school you wouldn't attend, you might be able to use a scholarship to negotiate with your preferred schools. Simply put: nobody on TLS can help you with any certainty. Apply everywhere, hope for the best, and see what you end up with.miamiman wrote:Another: blanket the T14 and see what happens.

Very good advice.witorres89 wrote:Yeah if your looking for a full scholarship the marginal cost of applying to a school is much lower than benefit of maximizing chance at major $$$$ determine the worst school you would be willing to go to and apply at every school above
A HYS admittance would give you leverage to negotiate scholarship money with the lower ranked T10 schools.

Case in point: a dude on here, SwimBrad(?), got into UChi and, months later, Harvard. Initially, Chicago only offered him 60k, assuming of course he wouldn't get into HYS. After he got into Harvard and subsequently notified Chicago of his intent to enroll there, Chicago offered him a full scholarship.romothesavior wrote:Very good advice.witorres89 wrote:Yeah if your looking for a full scholarship the marginal cost of applying to a school is much lower than benefit of maximizing chance at major $$$$ determine the worst school you would be willing to go to and apply at every school above

Executive summary: apply to T14. don't ask us to read tea leaves for you.
