3.42 UGPA and 169 june 2010 lsat.......wheres the money?
so i just got my june 2010 score back like everyone else and i got a 169......one or two points higher than my average so im not complaining lol
i am attending a small private midwestern (il) college with a 3.44* gpa double majoring in both economics and international studies. ive done all the research to find where i have good/lock/reach chances of admission but i havent really found anything giving me a good idea of how far down ill have to look to get big time scholarship money, hopefully half/full tuition.
i realize there are numerous other factors to consider but i was hoping you all could help better guide me where i might have the most luck finding the money.
thanks

Useless without career goals and where you want to practice.

good point, i would say im pretty open but more inclined to stay in the midwest or east (ohio pennsylvania etc). no interest whatsoever in the working/living down south at all and very little desire to move out to the west coast.
in terms of career desires ive interned both at the states attorneys office here in il working with violent crimes fairly intensivly with the litigation side of things and am currently at a fairly small private practice *8 attorneys* doing real estate/tax/business law. i have no real desire to really do litigation at all so i would say im leaning more towards business or international law as an ideal career.
hope that helps clarify

International law isn't really a type of law, at least not without modifiers such as "intl. business" or "intl. criminal prosection."adammac17 wrote:good point, i would say im pretty open but more inclined to stay in the midwest or east (ohio pennsylvania etc). no interest whatsoever in the working/living down south at all and very little desire to move out to the west coast.

http://www.annaivey.com/iveyfiles/2008/ ... e_the_hype - just a caution.
But if you're interested in the midwest, there are some good schools that will have you. I'm thinking WashU and UIUC, specifically.

Re: 3.42 UGPA and 169 june 2010 lsat.......wheres the money?
thanks for the article, there are several good points in there. as for uiuc and wust, those two are obvio very high on my wish list but im trying to be VERY debt adverse. im going to get out of undergrad with negligible debt and was hoping to continue that on through law school.
more specifically though my question is i guess for my region, and one again just as a jumping off point, do i have to go all the way down the top 100 to schools like depaul marquette and stl to have a decent chance of a full scholarship? specific type of law notwithstanding?

I had similar numbers. 3.48 and 168 which I bumped to a 169 mid-cycle. I got money at Davis, WUSTL, and BU (30K for all three) and W&L 24K/year. I'm going to Cornell at sticker (but funding most of it without loans). Good luck.

not trying to pry too much but are you funding it through outside scholarships/grants or personal funds?

No all were yearly. I just didn't want to do the math for 24x3 (it's 72K).adammac17 wrote:thanks for your post!were the first three scholarships only a one time thing? not yearly? and congrats on cornell!!!!

I'm funding most of school through personal means. The remainder I'll take it Stafford loans. I would still have been willing to take out the full loans at sticker. You're a splitter, which means you'll have to dip to get money. I have heard USC is generous to pull the higher LSATs, but I didn't apply. Good luck.

Your numbers should get you good money at WUSTL/Illinois for the Midwest, but if you're going to have to go lower if you want a full ride.

a friend of mine with nearly exact numbers as yours from a small midwest college *169 3.50+ gpa female non-URM* got into Cornell last cycle @ sticker but chose to attend WUSTL with $$$, i believe half tuition though ill check on that and get back to you.
with those numbers id say definitely reach a bit into t14 but in terms of any major $ youll have to go 20 or lower

USC, and all the California schools really, are pretty strict about GPA. I wouldn't count on getting much from them, if anything.

really!?!? full at THE ohio state would def interest me
not really too interested in iowa because......well, i dont really want to wind up living there
and in terms of my precise school, ill go as far as narrowing it down to >5000 students in the central illinois area

THANKS FOR ALL THE INPUT

Illinois would probably give you 20-30k, making it essentially a full ride. I'd target UIUC, WUSTL, and Minnesota. All splitter friendly, and all rather good with merit money.

Ya, apply to tOSU early and when you get in make sure you get looked at for the Moritz. You'll have a very good chance. And btw, Columbus, especially during football season>>>>>>>>>>>>>> than all the other cities listed on here (st. louis, minneapolis, champaigne, etc.)adammac17 wrote:Patriot1208 wrote:Also, probably a good chance at full tuition at ohio state which if you wanted ohio would be great.

Your handle suggests that you know more about Duke than I do, but LSN strongly contradicts your statement.dukelawguy144 wrote:You will get into Duke with some $,adammac17 wrote:thanks for all the great posts, ill definitely be applying to most/all of the aforementioned........anyone have any personal experience with notre dame? im thinking about looking into their law school but surprisingly know ABSOLUTELY no one with first hand knowledge with their law school

Ya, from what others have said, he's not even guaranteed to get in, let alone to get money.dukelawguy144 wrote:You will get into Duke with some $,adammac17 wrote:thanks for all the great posts, ill definitely be applying to most/all of the aforementioned........anyone have any personal experience with notre dame? im thinking about looking into their law school but surprisingly know ABSOLUTELY no one with first hand knowledge with their law school

Even if he is speaking from experience, the odds of an acceptance with money there are small. Your number combo is a wall of yellow on LSN. Duke was my only reject, and I had a 168/3.76. I would have expected at least a WL, especially since the rest of my app was solid.adammac17 wrote:yea.......i was kinda taken back at that statement lol id love to attend Duke, itll probably be one of my reaches but i dont really think i stand a chance at $.....im below 25% on gpa and around the median on lsat. are you speaking from experience?

Yea you may have a shot at Duke. I was a 169 and 3.8, so I was in thier range. I know someone (URM) who got in with a 167 and 3.46 with some scholarship.
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
