You're half-what? Apply HYSCCNMVP regardless.

Mexican. Also, should I submit my apps in as soon as I can, or wait until my new LSAT is in.mallard wrote:You're half-what? Apply HYSCCNMVP regardless.

3.83/171/(half) Mexican male?
I'm betting a good 4-5 of HYSCCN bite.

The opposite of me; 3.8x/170/white, but grew up in a Cherokee/Mexican family. Didn't provide me a tangible boost (since I didn't mention it, it couldn't have), but you'll see a boost if you check the box.Knockglock wrote:Correct. I don't have strong involvement with the community or anything though tbh.Kretzy wrote:3.83/171/(half) Mexican male?

With your numbers, you should see 1-2 of CCN anyway; this will put you over the top though.

Thanks Kretzky. S is probably my top, but i'm kind of counting it out, unless I can hit a lot closer to my PT average on my retake. Second, with your PT average, you should probably retake, especially if you are set on HYS or CCN with $$$. If you would be happy in CCN with limited $, don't worry about a retake.

No problem. My dream school was SLS and I didn't think I had a shot; I move into campus housing in Palo Alto in 8 weeks. Look at the numbers; you've got a fantastic shot at any of the T6.Knockglock wrote:Thanks Kretzky. Apply. The hype over averaging seems to be just that...hype. If you put together an interesting application, I think you've got a good shot. You're a URM with quite balanced numbers, both of which are near or over median. Let me know if you have any questions or whatnot!
Good luck!

Yeah I guess I should retake. It's just so hard, I've exhausted a lot of prep material lol, i don't know how i'm going to study for the retake. think i'll just do very minimal preparation this time around, and hope the nerves won't get me as much this time around i guess.cardnal124 wrote:First off, glocks are awesome.Knockglock wrote:Correct. Seconding Kretzy's advice -- an application's written portions can elevate (or demote!) it into another class entirely at smaller schools like Y & S. Spend time putting together a strong, cohesive application, and you can worry about the retake after.

Thanks so much, I really appreciate it. Do you have any advice for the retake? seems like we had pretty similar 1st tests, and i'd like to end up with a similar 2nd test.
I've already been worried/dreading my PS and DS lol, and now I have even more pressure to make it really strong, ugh lol.

You've already got at shot at YHS. Someone just like you got Yale. http://lawschoolnumbers.com/booby87
But people with similar numbers also didn't get in.
If you really have 176 under realistic PT conditions I might retake. If you aren't 100% confident with your Oct test, you'd have to cancel.
How did you feel on the June tests. Did you know you were off your average?

Honestly, I didn't. I thought it would be somewhere from 172-180, anywhere in there. I was pretty surprised to get my score. I took my PT's under realistic conditions as well, so I was definitely surprised.Desert Fox wrote:You've already got at shot at YHS. Re: 3.83 / 171
I think it also depends on how set you are on S...IMO you have an excellent shot at CCN and pretty good at H. I personally can't imagine the trauma of studying/taking/waiting through another LSAT round so I tend to lean on the side of not re-taking, but it's such a personal choice. You will do great, I'm sure! Btw, on a random note, how does your LSDAS GPA differ (if at all) from your regular UGPA? Do they add/subtract based on what school you went to and your major, or one or the other, or...? I guess what I'm trying to get at is would going to non-HYP Ivy and having an average difficulty-level major make my LSDAS GPA higher than it is? Do law schools just consider your LSDAS GPA when looking at GPA?Knockglock wrote:Honestly, I didn't. I thought it would be somewhere from 172-180, anywhere in there. Thanks. I want S pretty bad tbh. I love California and would like to live here (although part of me is interesting in changing things up and living on the East Coast for a few years). Still S...is my dream school.ilovemulch wrote:I think it also depends on how set you are on S...IMO you have an excellent shot at CCN and pretty good at H. Anyways, my LSDAS GPA is about .04 less than my degree granting gpa, and about .01 less than my cumulative gpa.
As far as your GPA, they don't do anything based on their schools, and going to an ivy won't really help you unless it's HYP. Yup, they look at your LSDAS GPA and that is what matters to them.

I think you've got a good shot at Stanford as it is. At least as good as anyone ever has at Stanford. They accept people with lower numbers but also reject people with higher (and with seemly very good softs).Knockglock wrote:Thanks. I want S pretty bad tbh. I would say you're out with the current numbers, possibly WL'd, absent game-changing softs. Significantly higher chance if you hit your PT average (which was 175? 176?) -- at least 50% shot, probably better.

Interesting in a few more opinions on this, since it seems like H is decently predictable, at least compared to S (not even bothering to mention Y).Knockglock wrote:Anyone want to guess what my chances are at H?

Be careful with using booby87 as a reference. She's 1/2 AA...I'm pretty sure we get more of a boost than any other URM. Plus, she's also insanely awesome as a person, so no one was surprised when she swept HYS.
But KG, I have a feeling you'll be just fine <3

Haha, thanks Gaia <3. I just feel like i'm in limbo a little bit. Even 1 or 2 points higher or lower on the LSAT and I would have a much easier decision on whether to retake or not. As of now, leaning retake.GAIAtheCHEERLEADER wrote:Be careful with using booby87 as a reference. She's 1/2 AA...I'm pretty sure we get more of a boost than any other URM.
