4.0 GPA with Military Experience
I have a 4.0 in Political Science at a major state university. I am also a female with 4 years in the Marine Corps and have been deployed to Iraq. Also, I am 24 years old, a homeowner and married. I am part of a few honors societies and have some other soft qualifications. I just took the LSAT and I think I got lower than I have been scoring at home. Normally I have been getting in the 170's but I think I may have gotten below that and am not sure if I should cancel. If I have about a 167, what are my chances with any top 10s.

You will probably get a T6, perhaps HYS acceptance. Military experience counts for a lot. That said, if you do worse than your PTs indicate, you should probably retake, to be safe. A vet with a 4.0 can go anywhere with the right LSAT.

Not with a 167.mallard wrote:You will probably get a T6, perhaps HYS acceptance. Military experience counts for a lot. That said, if you do worse than your PTs indicate, you should probably retake, to be safe. A vet with a 4.0 can go anywhere with the right LSAT.
OP, I had a 3.92/168 with 10 years military experience and a Masters. My final results were:
Michigan - Attending w/$ (Also, automatic Yellow Ribbon for 100% of school paid for plus BAH and Dean's scholarship. Michigan loves the military...def apply here)
Penn - Deferred
NYU - Waitlist
Columbia - Waitlist
Georgetown - In
Duke - Waitlist

You are vastly overstating the advantage of the military experience.mallard wrote:You will probably get a T6, perhaps HYS acceptance. Military experience counts for a lot. Should I cancel and retake? I'm pretty sure I would do vastly better.

Why do you think you did so bad. Did you leave questions blank?screechypeachy wrote:Should I cancel and retake? I'm pretty sure I would do vastly better.

Sorry, I've been out of these threads for a year and apparently don't remember things too well. I know there was a 3.8/168 who got HYS last year but I guess her experience was more unique than I thought. Listen to everyone else, not me!

That's a decision only you can make. A 167 versus a 170 is a huge difference in school and $$$. If you can make mid-170s, you have a shot at HYS. A 167 would be decent for Michigan though, and you can't beat an automatic full-ride plus living stipend. Assuming you have Post 9/11 GI Bill.screechypeachy wrote:Should I cancel and retake?
