Re: 3.84/170
Judging from LSN, all five of those schools are stretches with those numbers. 170 is below median for all of them except Stanford, and your GPA is only median at HYS, though better at CN. Doesn't mean you won't get in any of those places, and I like the international relations/chinese double major, but I think your odds are low at HYS and only mediocre at CN.

Y-rejected
H-waitlist/rejected
S-waitlist/? depends on LOR, PS, soft factors
C-waitlist/accepted - waitlist more likely
NYU-waitlist/accepted
I had pretty much the same numbers as you (3.9/169), but I only applied to Columbia out of those schools (and got put reserve), so take my post with a grain of salt.
Based on my experience and others on TLS, you will probably get a nice scholarship from somewhere in the lower half of the T14, and likely a full ride or close from T25.

Looking at your GPA and UG institution, you probably had the opportunity for some nice work/extracurricular experiences. If you played those factors up, you could help your chances a bit. But if you're dying to go these schools (no UChicago?) and can't accept anything less, then there's always the option of waiting and retaking the LSAT. I bet even a 2-3 point improvement would push you over the top at NYU and Columbia, at the least.

i can't say that's the typical case for someone with your numbers, though.

If I were to raise my LSAT to the 173-175 range, would that have a huge impact?

Yes. You would have really good chances at Columbia and NYU. HYS still probably reaches though, although much more likely.sjalpert wrote:If I were to raise my LSAT to the 173-175 range, would that have a huge impact?

Yes, it would likely be a huge difference. You can double check on LSN, predictor, and the TLS charts. I think only one or two of those schools average LSATs, so your 170 wouldn't hurt.sjalpert wrote:If I were to raise my LSAT to the 173-175 range, would that have a huge impact?
Your GPA is below median at H, so you still wouldn't be a lock there.

I change all my answers to this thread is pointless. How much do LSAT scores typically rise from the first practice test to the final exam? I took a practice test tonight with no prior prep and got a 160. What should I expect, considering that I was not extremely focused tonight and have had no practice before, and that I typically test much better un...

gah! take some more practice tests, get a real lsat score, and then start worrying about HYS. you've got the whole process ass-backwards.

Truth. You can always dream about getting into HYS, but until you have a set LSAT score you know you're applying with, stop speculating your chances like its the Chinese housing market.byunbee wrote:gah! take some more practice tests, get a real lsat score, and then start worrying about HYS. you've got the whole process ass-backwards.
