2.5 GPA
I am currently doing my undergrad in Electrical Engineering, my current GPA is 2.5 and I think I will go up this and next semester, since i will be taking some GE cources, I am planning to take my Lsat in october, I wanna know what are my chances to get into schools like university of Miami, Penn State. I aiming to do my best, but what range of scores should I aim for, for these schools.

Re: 2.5 GPA
Honestly, just focus on boosting that GPA. As for the LSAT try to score as high as possible. While your GPA isn't ideal, a great LSAT score (160+) will offset it. Study/practice all summer for even a few hours a day. If you do this, for 2-3 months, and see the test's patterns and types of correct answers, you'll surely succeed.
Also, don't forget to put in a lot of work on your Personal Statement to make your application file stand out.
You can do it! Just work hard and stay focused.

That's not going to give a very good idea at all. It doesn't take GPA floors or other things into account that may not allow someone with his GPA.StrictlyLiable wrote:Hard to say. http://www.lawschoolpredictor.com to give you an idea. Goodluck.
Didn't know that was a scoreSlim

don't you need a 3.0 just to graduate from an engineering degree?

No, quite the opposite. My department had a 2.25 rule to take upper level courses, but graduation quota. I bet 40% of my class graduated with a sub 3.0.lawyerhopefull wrote:don't you need a 3.0 just to graduate from an engineering degree?

It's all based on a curve. They could make it easier if they wanted to.lawyerhopefull wrote:Gotta love American cars.....![]()

yeah, but thats kind of true for every degree isnt it? Isnt that basicly saying, "Yeah most only get a 2.25 but they COULD give us a 3.5 so that makes it the same" ?

Re: 2.5 GPA
I take it that they'd prefer someone with a easy as pie degree like liberalarts but a 4.0 in it over a degree that proves you can think?

Re: 2.5 GPA
LSN has people with really poor GPA getting in, some not. I guess I should have said a shot, not a good shot.quadsixm wrote:I had an engineering major, 2.5, and 168+, applied in early december, and got straight up dinged from Penn State this cycle.Desert Fox wrote:165+ gets you a good shot at Penn State. Re: 2.5 GPA
Yes it is true of every degree. 3.0 doesn't mean anything. There is no such thing as B work. It's all subjective and relative. Engineering just decides to grade lower. I dunno why. That doesn't mean it is easier.lawyerhopefull wrote:yeah, but thats kind of true for every degree isnt it? I'd assume engineering is harder than liberal arts or HR but still why grade on a curve for that at all? You either build shitty stuff or you don't. You wouldnt want a doctor graded on the curve in your body, why makeing the vehicle that you baby daughter might die in on the way to daycare due to poor engineering?

Because they make the tests insanely hard.lawyerhopefull wrote:I'd assume engineering is harder than liberal arts or HR but still why grade on a curve for that at all? so no one was insanely smart enough to do better than a C plus?

Re: 2.5 GPA
C plus is a meaningless distinction without a curve. What does a C minus test look like? So they curve to a B minus. That way no matter how easy or hard the test is, you earn the grade you earn.lawyerhopefull wrote:so no one was insanely smart enough to do better than a C plus?
It's the same way law schools curve.

Re: 2.5 GPA
ok, good point. Let me be more specific. The curve(in lawschool or anywhere else) is just how schools justify not failing all the would be flunkies that shouldnt pass. Every class should require at least a 60% to pass(as a D).
Anything less proves just that you guessed and got lucky and/or know jackshit about what the class was about,

In theory if you aced the LSAT with a 180, I doubt you're GPA would matter even if a raw 2.0

Re: 2.5 GPA
Unfortunately, a 2.5 GPA is going to be a really difficult number to get in to any T1 school without at least a 170+ LSAT.
Fortunately, with an EE degree, you can go to any TTT toilet and work in patent prep/pro/lit anyway.
So ultimately, if you don't hit PSU or Miami, it's OK.
Also, even if you raise your GPA you're fucked. 2.5 does you no better than a 2.8 because both of these are well below any respectable law school's median GPA. Just study your ass off for the LSAT and hit 160+ and go to a school with a respectable IP program.
