3.41/173 ED Michigan.... Chances?
My February LSAT was 173 and my LSDAS GPA, if calculated right, is 3.41.
If I apply to Michigan, will I get in?
Average Softs:
-Interned at public interest group
-Student Organization President
-Heavily active on other student organizations
-Took a two year break from school to work a small office job, nothing significant
I'll be applying next semester, of course.

LSP has you as a strong consider. Honestly, I wouldn't ED. Just apply RD, unless you are absolutely dead-set on it and have no qualms about debt.

My grandpa, and my father, both worked for Ford in Michigan (neither of them went to U Mich, though)... I know that our state's economy's going down, but I have a personal attachment to staying in Michigan until I get my first "career" job.
It says Admit for me. Is there like a different version of lawschoolpredictor.com that I'm missing out on? Grrr.. I knew I should have been a little more skeptical about it.romothesavior wrote:LSP has you as a strong consider. Honestly, I wouldn't ED. Do you have any more school left to maybe get that GPA up a bit? Looks like a few people got in this year with 173/3.5ish, but there isn't really anyone right at your numbers to compare to from the last few years. If you really want Michigan, I'd apply real early and ED.King wrote:My grandpa, and my father, both worked for Ford in Michigan (neither of them went to U Mich, though)... I didn't do ED when I checked the first time. But still, your GPA makes you splitter-esque, so its hard to tell. If you know you want Michigan, the ED could give you a slight bump. I'm not trying to knock Michigan ED... I was a Michigan ED applicant this past fall! Unfortunately I got waitlisted, but better luck to you!King wrote:My grandpa, and my father, both worked for Ford in Michigan (neither of them went to U Mich, though)... Honestly, this is a huge improvement from my 3.21 (edit: this was my "university GPA" at the time, so God only knows what my LSDAS would have been), which is when I decided to leave school to work. I was three credits shy of graduating last semester, so I'm taking the three right now. It won't make that much of a difference. Also, I have a lot of W's on my transcripts (this was before the two year break that I had). The maturing effects of age kicked in a bit, and it really shows on my transcript. I have all A's or A+'s for two whole semesters (18 credits each) and a summer school.
I plan on writing a very straightforward addendum on this. Do you think this'll make it difficult for me even if I decide to apply ED early to Michigan?

If you don't mind, will you please tell me your LSAT/GPA/Softs?romothesavior wrote: I didn't do ED when I checked the first time. But still, your GPA makes you splitter-esque, so its hard to tell. Even though I've read different things about how ED'ing may or may not affect your abilities to get scholarship money I still have no idea how that works.. if you're set on going to UM you have a great shot ED'ing.

And they got money, too. That's something to consider. You may get a small boost by going ED, but it is unlikely you will get money. I know admissions says you can still be awarded $$$ through ED, but it is very unlikely. Just something to think about, if money is a factor.whitman wrote:http://lawschoolnumbers.com/palms108

FWIW a moderator here, Helmholtz, applied RD with very similar numbers and got in with a pretty solid amount of money. You might want to talk to him about it.

He must have had some really good softs. I'm probably going to spend an entire six or so months crafting my applications (soliciting Letters of Rec. and writing personal statements). I'm actually going to write a Why Michigan essay too!GeePee wrote:FWIW a moderator here, Helmholtz, applied RD with very similar numbers and got in with a pretty solid amount of money. Getting money would be awesome... I wonder if there's a way I can express my concerns about scholarship. It's just that being denied at Michigan would be a soul crusher. It'd be like my late grandpa, my pops, and I, all failed to go to Michigan's best school. At this rate, even my children'll end up not getting into U Mich.romothesavior wrote:And they got money, too. Also: For those who are saying "out," could you please tell me what led you to think so?
