The retake of doom...
I retook a 170 and got a mid-160.( I was destracted preparing to move abroad, so I dont have a good excuse) My gpa is a 3.2 with a 3.9 in the last two years.
Do you think these two numbers softs will cancel each other out?
Please chance me. Im a AA male with some interesting softs? (working in china, studied in russia, president of some club etc...)
please chance me at the top 30 or so.
Tell me if you think I should retake again? (I would have to retake in beijing (3 hour train ride), but I was practicing in the mid 170s)

Dude, you're totally ok for top 30. If you're URM, you'll probably sweep anything 20 or above and you have a good shot at T10-20. HYSCCN is probably a no, but with your stats and URM status I'd apply to the rest of the T14. I probably wouldn't retake.sophia.olive wrote:I retook a 170 and got a mid-160.( I was destracted preparing to move abroad, so I dont have a good excuse) My gpa is a 3.2 with a 3.9 in the last two years.

You think CCN is a no with a 170 LSAT and URM status?holydonkey wrote:Dude, you're totally ok for top 30. If you're URM, you'll probably sweep anything 20 or above and you have a good shot at T10-20. There are only 50 or so black candidates with a 170+ LSAT...

Re: The retake of doom...
I would have to disagree with this. An AA male with a 170/3.2 will not get HYSCCN? HYS will be a toss up, but you should definitely apply to H and S, though, the GPA is too low for Y. CCN are definite possibilities. I've seen URMs with significantly lower stats get accepted to these schools.holydonkey wrote:Dude, you're totally ok for top 30. Re: The retake of doom...
you guys are ignoring the fact that i retook and got a 166? should that be ignored? Im practicing around 175-176, or was until i took the test i bombed, Dont you think a 174-176 would make a huge difference?

They'll take the higher score. You're fine.sophia.olive wrote:you guys are ignoring the fact that i retook and got a 166? should that be ignored? Im practicing around 175-176, or was until i took the test i bombed, Dont you think a 174-176 would make a huge difference?
Obviously a 174 puts you in a different category than a 170, but with a 170 and URM status you're going to get into a great law school.

I would say you are at least in an equal, if not, better position than that guy, simply because there are so few AA male URMs with 170+ scores. If you got the balls to retake and get a 174...you could be in the same position as this guy:
black male
top 20 UG
2 years WE in investment banking and other financial services
degree granting gpa (lsac gpa): 3.2 (3.72)...transferred, did better at new school
lsat: 174
harvard: in, class of '13
columbia: deferred early decision (had a 170 at the time however, and retook in dec 09)
nyu: in
chicago: in
northwestern: in
michigan: in
georgetown: in
vandy: in
texas: in (w/ $$$)
uva: waitlisted
