169/3.5/top 15 private undergrad
Hi everyone,
After PTing consistently in the mid 170s before both test administrations, I'm stuck with a 167 and a 169. My GPA is mediocre, a 3.5, and although I'm a strong writer with what I would consider to be good softs (like everyone else, ha ha), I'm wondering if I should retake one more time before sending in my apps in September/October (I'm taking a year off to take a high-paying fairly prestigious job).
So basically, I'm asking what my chances are at t20 schools right now, and what they'd be if I took the LSAT a third time and scored 170+. What do we think? I've really wanted UVA for a while now, and although I'm sure that's out of the question, I'm also really interested in UMich, Vandy, Georgetown, and Northwestern.

I think Vandy seems pretty likely. If you really want UVA, throw an ED their direction.

well if you were PTing in the 170s but got a 167 and a 169, i don't think you should consider a retake since it is pretty obvious the benefit would be marginal.
I would try Michican and UVA

Your numbers look good for Michigan as-is, especially with a well-written Why Michigan? essay.

If you want UVa, you'll need to retake. The bar is 170 or 3.85. Your chances are much better at getting a 170 than a 3.85 at this point.
Good chance at Michigan, though.

I have almost the exact same stats, and am currently in at Mich, Vandy, WUSTL in the Top 20, and waitlisted at UVA and Duke. Good luck!

thanks everyone! i think i may take my chances this cycle and then retake if i get WL'd a bunch of places...i'm not sure that i have another lsat in me right now, but i have a while to recover so we'll see. i just don't want to rush the retake and end up in a worse place than i am right now

Yeah definitely retake only if and when you're ready to do so.
