167/3.11 Does Feb LSAT jump matter?

Post by lynnzee » Mon Feb 22, 2010 1:57 pm

Sorry, I posted this on the LSAT Prep Forum, I think it's the wrong one.

I had a root canal (no joke) and was on medication while taking the Sept. LSAT. I ended up getting a 167 which isn't bad but lower than my PT avg of about 174. I took the test again in Feb but I've already been waitlisted by a few schools including GW which I am very interested in. Even if I get a 170+ on the Feb test (which I felt very good about), what are my chances this point? Does it even matter?

My GPA was not very good. 3.11, and so far I've gotten into Minnesota, WUSTL, W&M, and UIUC. Even with a 170+ at this time of year, and my low GPA, would I have any chance at Vandy level and lower T14 schools?

I did know a few people last year with 172+ and lower than 3.2 GPAs (non URM) who got accepted to Gtown, UVA, NU, and Mich. But since it's so late in the game, are my chances basically shot?

Also, I wouldn't be able to apply next cycle or else that's what I'd do if the Feb LSAT turned out well.

yes, those 3 - 4 points will be huge if you get a 170+

I think with a 170+ you would still be admitted to Vandy and even have a shot at WL/in to Gtown

It is unfortunate that you cannot apply next year, because if you do end up hitting 171+ you would have a decent shot at any one of Duke, Mich, or UVA, especially if you ED. What exactlly is holding you back from applying next year if you end up scoring exceptionally well? It might be seriously worth your time to wait out for a t10. High LSAT/low GPA splitters normally do well as far as getting into t20 schools, but they usually cannot count on good scolarship money. So if you are going to pay at or near sticker for an LS education, you should make it your number one priority to get in the best school possible.

Is there any chance of getting scholarship money to any place this late in the game? Say you have been accepted already and get a much higher score for Feb, is there a chance to get any from schools that you have already been accepted to, or even ones that you apply to AFTER you get your score? Maybe if some other people with scholarships withdraw? Or is there just no chance and you have to wait and apply early next year? (gah) I know it might differ from school to school but is there a general trend?

Thanks for your answers.

If I receive a 170+ LSAT score, would I still be able to transfer to a T14 school if I get an A- or higher GPA first semester? Would I have a better chance of getting into T14 schools as a regular applicant with 170+/3.11 UGPA or a transfer applicant of 170+/3.5+ GPA in one semester of T20 law school?

If you want the T14, UVA and Gtown have ED options till March.

Basically it it’s just a binding commit during the regular cycle. I would use one of those, UVA had guaranteed response in 15 days and is a slightly better school. I would exercise their ED first, and then if held for regular/WL, I would then exercise the ED at Gtown. Both schools are in the market for raising their 75%, so 172 would put you in their sights.

Its a really bad idea to go somewhere with the intention of transfering. You never know where in the class you will end up.

They gave you medication for your root canal? I had four done in a single visit and they didn't give me shit. Though, there was no pain to medicate.
