2.9/170/Hispanic Female
What do you think my realistic chances are of getting into:
Cornell
Fordham
Rutgers Camden
Villanova
Boston University
George Washington
... for the class of 2014 if I apply VERY early (October). Also, I am an undergrad at an ivy.
Thanks for your help!

But anyway, drop Rutgers and Villanova from the app list and apply to more schools in the T20/T14.

+1. If you are Mexican or Puerto Rican, I'd apply to CCN on down.Joga Bonito wrote:What kind of hispanic?lawschoolhopeful45 wrote:What do you think my realistic chances are of getting into:

Well in that case I would say apply everwhere in the T20 that you would attend, and include GW and BC/BU I guess as safeties(Although I don't think you will need them). You should at least get into Cornell/Northwestern/Gtown or something, also I don't think it would hurt to apply to YHS, you never know.

I dont understand this mexican/puerto rican advantage on TLS. I know a dean of admissions at a t20 school and he said that I have an advantage being Cuban....someone explain?

Re: 2.9/170/Hispanic Female
It's not quite as simplistic as people on TLS make it seem, it’s just easier to oversimplify so you don't have to write a lot and you can still give someone the basics. Mexicans and Puerto Ricans are under rep. given their % of the population. 64% of US Latino pop is Mexican like 9% is Puerto Rican, Cubans are next with like 4% and on down. Plus if you were say a black Cuban American, (and you make that clear somehow in your app) you would get stronger consideration than if you were a white Cuban (because of racial discrimination etc). I think they also take into consideration average poverty and incarceration rates among certain groups and average lsat scores among groups, so its not just your this and not that so no boost for you without some reason.

oh ok that makes more sense. My entire diversity statement was talking about my Cuban heritage and the values it espoused so i was confused as to why other Hispanics were seen as having an advantage. I thought when schools reported diversity it was a general "Hispanic" category

Sounds to me like you have a fair shot at all of those schools. I would apply to even more if I were you if there are any other schools that interest you. That's an awesome LSAT and being hispanic probably will at least help some with your GPA.
