172/3.8 - MVP Scholarship?
Starting to get paranoid about whether I planned my cycle poorly.
My top outcome would be Penn + scholarship, with the second best options being a full-ride to Temple/Villanova or Penn at sticker. I’ve already had some luck with the last two options, and while I wait to see whether any scholarship invite will be forthcoming from Penn, I’ve given some thought to the opportunities I may have missed regarding leveraging scholarship offers at peer schools in the event that Penn doesn’t invite me.
Bluntly, is it too late to send out apps to Michigan and/or UVA with any chance of a scholarship offer? I know I should have had this thought back in October, but LSN suggests it’s still possible. Is it work the fees and the effort to write the “Why ___?” essays?

Go for it!
Your only problem may be, you have YP numbers for UVA/Michigan. Did you also try CCN? And if you have any WE, Northwestern gives out cash you might be able to use for leverage.

I have higher numbers and got into both, plus got $$ at UVA. Just write the Why Michigan, and I would recommend also including a Why UVA even though it isn't asked for. I think you still stand a good chance for $$ at each (plus you could use it as leverage with Penn), so go for it!scribelaw wrote:Go for it!

I got into NYU RD with a 172/3.82. You should definitely apply!

Anybody have any idea whether I might get $$ from UVA with ~ 3.5/172 (also a VA resident)?

Your GPA's a bit low, but based upon UVA's LSN from last year I'd say you might have a shot at some $$ - looks like maybe $20 or $30k for all three years.agentzer0 wrote:maggiebre wrote:I have higher numbers and got into both, plus got $$ at UVA. Yeah I'm afraid the gpa might shut me out of $$ but even just $10k a year would be amazing. The concern isn't acceptances so much as scholarship money--unless it's possible to leverage an acceptance at CCN for $ at MVP.Series70 wrote:I got into NYU RD with a 172/3.82. You should definitely apply!
M and V sound like they're worth the effort, though, especially given the potential ROI. Thanks for the advice!

Your numbers are also competitive for all of CCN. Even if you don't get scholarship money from them, you could always try to negotiate with offers from lower schools.

FWIW I got into UVA without any $$ with a 3.5/173 - I'm not a VA resident tho (tho I am a UVA alumna - I don't know if that would help)

UVA has only given out its big awards, none of the smaller amounts have been awarded yet. So there's a chance that you may still get money.Marisa5252 wrote:agentzer0 wrote:

Re: 172/3.8 - MVP Scholarship?
Like the original poster, I too am interested in getting money out of Penn. I have gotten into NYU Penn Gtown and Duke, to name a few. None have offered any money , but I submitted Duke's scholarship application that was included in my application packet.
My numbers, btw, are 3.65 and 173.
What exactly is the process to get scholarship money from a school like Penn? When and how do I say "Well this peer school offered me X or this lower school offered me a full ride etc etc.?"
Thanks in advance, and hopefully I didn't just steal this thread. I hope and assume that my main question (i.e. HOW do we go about getting this money?) is something that OP cares about as well...

No, my question was about how I am supposed to get money from Penn. There is no "we." >: )bubbagump wrote:Thanks in advance, and hopefully I didn't just steal this thread. Seriously though, good question. Any takers?
