3.89/172--chances at $$ in t14?
Hey guys, I am wondering if I have a shot at getting money (and wondering how much is likely) from a t14. My numbers are 3.89 from a top 40 liberal arts school, 172 lsat, solid softs (but nothing especially noteworthy), and I will have two years' work experience when I begin law school (one teaching, one at some random job). I am wondering if any t14 would give me much money, and also what UCLA might give. Thank you!
Edit: especially interested in schools on the west coast.

Applying now or next cycle? Now, you could get into Berkeley but won't get $$$ and admission is not guaranteed. Stanford is unlikely to accept you this late. Next cycle, you are quite likely to get in at Stanford but would not get $$$. Berkeley loves early applicants and would definitely admit you early on next cycle, but no chance of $$$ as the UC system is broke. UCLA is just outside the T14 and would definitely admit you now. USC is only just lower and would admit and give $$$. The UC system is so broke that they're making almost everyone pay sticker; otherwise, UCLA would give you plenty of $$$ too.
Looking outside Cali, now, you stand a very good shot at the T14 below HYS and CCN (except Northwestern as it's too late for the interviews); very likely out at Harvard and Yale, possibly in off the waitlist at Columbia, Chicago and NYU. Applying early next cycle, you stand a good shot at HYS and should be in everywhere else with the possibility of $$$ at the lower T14.

OP's numbers look good enough for Yale. they emphasize that there is not an advantage of applying early. it would come down to softs i would say, but worth an app

They say that, but I'm not sure I believe it. Yale usually only admits 175+ after December unless there's a really good story or the 250 is amazing or something. (S)he might have one of those, but I'm assuming not.englawyer wrote:OP's numbers look good enough for Yale. they emphasize that there is not an advantage of applying early. it would come down to softs i would say, but worth an app
Then again, Yale is really, really unpredictable. It's at least worth a shot, anyway. So is Harvard, just less likely due to being more predictable.

Does when you apply make a big difference at Stanford? From what I have read I didn't get that sense. It might help, but it wasn't one of the schools that seemed to really put a big emphasis on it. I'm about to apply there but do you think it's a waste at this point (I have 1 point higher LSAT than the OP but a slightly lower GPA).BenJ wrote:Applying now or next cycle? its $75 for a chance at an amazing law school. worth the chance, even if BenJ's predictions about january applications are true. chance is non-zero in any casedemocrattotheend wrote:Does when you apply make a big difference at Stanford? If you're looking at the west coast, I don't think Berkeley gives much merit aid, and you'll definitely get a lot from UCLA. But I just got $90K at UVA with an LSAT just 1 point above yours and close to the same GPA, so I'd say you're looking good for $$ there.
