Re: Economics - "hard" major?
I majored in Econ and Philosophy, and was accepted into a school way outside of my range according to LSP (DENY, with less than 5%). So maybe, just maybe, my majors had something to do with my being accepted.

Wait, what?! I'm not about to start trollin for my econ major (OMG LOLz MY MAJOR, IT'S WAY HARDER THAN A STOOPID MEDICAL DEGREE LOLz!), but you're tryin to troll for psych?!ajmanyjah wrote:fear&loathingintexas wrote:I keep hearing that the expectations for GPA are more lenient if you have a hard major (i.e. hard sciences) than an "easy" one (i.e. the "studies" majors). One of my majors was economics (the other was history), which is not quite a business major, not quite a social sciences major and not quite a math/science major. Do admissions officers tend to lump economics in with math/science/engineering or more with the liberal arts majors?
Economics is in no way a hard major. Being a psych major, most people would not consider mine as one but I'd like them to take 5 advanced neurobio classes

And no, psychology is not a hard major for god sakes. 5 advanced neurobio classes as a psychology major? Oh I bet they were real brain benders. Brag about those dumbed down neurobio classes to a biochem major and see if you don't get slapped in the face for being an idiot.ajmanyjah wrote:Economics is in no way a hard major. The only difficult "bio" classes are all in the chemistry department.. and even those arent all that difficult if you are decent at math.Total Litigator wrote:And no, psychology is not a hard major for god sakes. 5 advanced neurobio classes as a psychology major? EDIT: Biochem should be mentioned as a "hard" major.. the time commitment and the ability to endure extreme boredom that that major takes is astounding.

I like the debate over which major is harder.
It all depends on what your aptitudes are.

At least you can feel good about not spending 200k on a degree in "Executive Management" or "International Relations".

When did biochem become hard? It's just memorization...hell so are any organic side chem courses. The harder ones were phys chem but they were also the most fun and really the most intuitive, and still not that hard (chem was always my strongest science though)Total Litigator wrote:And no, psychology is not a hard major for god sakes. 5 advanced neurobio classes as a psychology major? For some reason, though, any electro or magnetic physics screwed me, but probably because I didn't care
and who said they were "dumbed down"...I think you are mistaking my school for whatever your school was. The only dumbed down classes were in Education and Business, and Arts was easy (even Psych BA)...ANYTHING in science was two years of the school trying to fail you out

Using the same logic, I assume you think being a cashier is a "hard" job...memorizing and regurgitating have little to do with intelligence---more important are the abilities of synthesis, analysis and evaluation, none of which are involved in "biochem" or most medical practitioner fields (fun fact-the first surgeons were barbers)tkgrrett wrote:The only difficult "bio" classes are all in the chemistry department.. and even those arent all that difficult if you are decent at math.Total Litigator wrote:And no, psychology is not a hard major for god sakes. 5 advanced neurobio classes as a psychology major? Re: Economics - "hard" major?
Hmm...this is simply untrue. Synthesis, analysis, and evaluation are the key components of most medical practitioner fields. And unlike lawyers (and "psychologists"), they also have to be able to memorize and regurgitate information. I agree that memorization isn't a very useful skill when it comes to legal practice, but its hard to deny that its an important aspect of intelligence.ajmanyjah wrote:Using the same logic, I assume you think being a cashier is a "hard" job...memorizing and regurgitating have little to do with intelligence---more important are the abilities of synthesis, analysis and evaluation, none of which are involved in "biochem" or most medical practitioner fields (fun fact-the first surgeons were barbers)tkgrrett wrote:The only difficult "bio" classes are all in the chemistry department.. and even those arent all that difficult if you are decent at math.Total Litigator wrote:

I think biochem CAN be hard, depending on the school and program...ajmanyjah wrote:When did biochem become hard? It's just memorization...hell so are any organic side chem courses. E&M is just the DEVIL. I swear, most awful pointless subject ever.
My friend and I have this theory that your brain is either equipped to excel in the E&M side of physics or the mechanics side...very rarely are people awesome at both.

What if you are tone deaf and have no coordination or motor skills? Then music would be the hardest major.thegor1987 wrote:lol, engineering physics is hard no matter what your aptitude bekalvano wrote:I like the debate over which major is harder.
