a 2.5/178 won't have a more than negligible chance at UVA even with ED.

A WL from UVA is pretty much a soft rejection. Practically no one gets off the WL for UVA.

Not disagreeing with you that the chance is minimal. I have heard of a case in which an in-person interview with UVA's Admiss Dean led to splitter admit off the WL.
