have you considered writing an addendum explaining that you picked up all these charges while working deep undercover investigating a gang of teenage scofflaws?

Peace corps and/or Americorps likely won't take you because of your record. Why aren't you looking for a job in Engineering? Unlike most people that are interested in law school, you have a degree that can get you a descent job.
More importantly, find a counselor. Go to your university health services and ask for a recommendation. Look for one that supports you, but also calls you on your shit. If you don't find one that you work well with, try another one. If money is an issue - look for those that accept payment on a sliding scale. If you don't fix or work on reducing the self-sabatoge now (not to mention any other things you might have to deal with), you will only continue to do the things that get you in trouble, making your life much more miserable than it needs to be.

Served 7 days in March 2014? So you literally just got out of jail. I guess props for focusing on your future so quickly.lookingforward wrote: o November 2013 - violation of no contact order contempt of court - simple misdemeanor – guilty - jail 7 days (served March 2014) and jail fees - arrested

Re: The longest rap sheet, the longest shot? 170, 3.56 engineer
I've heard of people with felony convictions getting into law school and being admitted to the bar. However, they had generally demonstrated a major life change by being free of any legal trouble for years - in some cases 15+ years. Until you go at least two years without an incident, I think very few worthwhile schools will take a chance on you. They will have dozens of applicants with your numbers who don't have such a spotty history. You have a good LSAT that will still be valid in 2 years. You have an employable degree already. Sadly, I think you may be best putting your law school plans on temporary hold. Best wishes!

If you can get into that much trouble in a state like Iowa, I'd recommend moving to SD, ND, Montana, or Wyoming, where the cattle population outnumbers humans. It sounds like you keep putting yourself in situations with certain people/places that get you into trouble, which can be avoided with discipline/planning. Also, counseling for anger management/authority issues may be worth considering.
If you just finished serving some time, you need to take a few years off to show you are completely reformed. Not very convincing if you say "I've changed" or "I'm different now" if w/in the last few weeks/months, you've had some legal issues. 'Murica loves the redemption story, but it will definitely take some time and effort on your part.

Have you considered military service? Though you may even have some issues there and need a waiver.
(Not a flame.)
ETA: I find a bit disconcerting that even describing your past indiscretions, it seems like you're not willing to take responsibility. Your contempt citation was for "being seen eating dinner with your girlfriend." You're leaving out a lot there, like the fact that your gf apparently had a protective order against you for some cause (probably related to same incident mentioned). That's separate from a complaint brought by the DA.

The military almost certainly wouldn't take him at this point. It's not 2005; the military isn't hurting for people anymore. They have plenty of prospective recruits without a 10 page rap sheet.BVest wrote:Have you considered military service? Though you may even have some issues there and need a waiver.

With that being said, you may as well apply. I would focus on schools ranked 15-50 and pray that I could find one desperate enough for a 170 to accept me. At that point, you may get a scholarship based on your numbers alone. But DEFINITELY research the bar in the state you'd like to practice in and do NOT get in any more trouble from here on out. I mean not even another parking ticket!

Re: The longest rap sheet, the longest shot? 170, 3.56 engineer
As an applicant with my own character and fitness issues, I have to imagine at least some of these charges stem from the environment you grew up in, which could be seen as somewhat mitigating depending on the potential explanation.
For real though man, you're 21. Fuck going to law school immediately. Personally, I think regardless of a person's circumstances, going to law school straight from undergrad is stupid. It isn't going anywhere, and as someone pointed out, your LSAT holds for five years. Although the application cycles are really favorable right now for applicants, you'd be better served by waiting.
Having experienced this type of thing personally, it sounds like you had a "come to jesus" moment where you decided law school is the answer to turning your life around. It may or may not be. Either way, take some time to get your mental straight and prove to yourself (and also admissions committees) that you can get your life under control. Get some type of job to pay the bills and chill for two or three years. Maybe get some counseling. Stay out of trouble, volunteer in the community, and try to use your experience(s) to help others.
A lot of people will probably see your rap sheet and be convinced you're an irreparable disaster. Fuck em'. You can prove them wrong if you really want to, but it will take a lot of patience. Don't sell yourself short by applying now. Whoever said you'd underperform is right. You shouldn't be going to any non T-14 school without a boatload of scholarship money.

On the whole, WUSTL is making very small offers to 170+ applicants this cycle. Even mid-160s are getting more.
You should revisit the idea of law school when you're in your late 20s.

Even if you do get in wil you be able to sit the bar? Might want to talk to an attorney about that before spending 200k.
