Desribe this freedom? Where do you feel I would get in t14 wise with no ED?

You have freedom to negotiate financial aid because you have leverage. You have zero leverage if you apply ED. I'm not sure where you'd fit without ED. I think LSN will give you a better estimate than I can. Look and see if you need the ED to get in to UVA. If you do, look and see if folks with numbers similar to yours get money at Duke or GULC. If they do you should base your decision on that.

I think you have a shot at NYU and Chicago. I'm not sure but you have to be approaching the MVP sweetspot.

I probably wouldn't ED UVA, honestly. I think you have too good of a shot at Duke + money, and an outside shot at NYU (probably around 30% or so). All that increases a lot with a retake of a single point up.

This guy roughly your same numbers, and got in NYU off the waitlist after EDing. He also had money at Duke, which I would have taken over UVA.

Hard to say. I think NYU gives a bigger boost for ED applicants, so probably NYU. Last cycle, a guy applied ED to UChi and got RJ'd with your numbers.

If you ED, it should be Penn IMO....I am not sure whether to instead recommend NYU or Chi because I am not sure how high the chances are there

The one thing I am sure of is do not ED to UVa bc Penn is safer from an employment perspective

Nah, UVA and Penn are fairly comparable. Obviously if OP has ties to the south, he should go UVA -- or ties to Philly, should go Penn. If you're below median at either place, you start to get in trouble. EDing to UVA instead of Penn is an okay choice.

I agree that I should've qualified what I said by adding that if you are from the South and want to go back there (or maybe if you just want to live there but don't have tie), UVa>Penn. But if you are okay with NYC as an outcome and you are at least considering private practice, I think EDing Penn is safer than UVa from an employment perspective. Perhaps Penn's edge is just because they have a smaller class. But I would prefer to be below median at Penn paying sticker and trying for big law than the equivalent position at UVa.

you can always RD UVA and when you get the waitlist switch to ED

For whatever reason, yes, Penn does have an advantage to UVA when it comes to NYC Biglaw. According to LST, UVA put 72.9% of its students in "good" jobs (PI, Fed clerkship, biglaw) vs 73.3 at Penn. UVA places slightly better in DC, which is not saying much...

They really are comparable schools. My gut feeling says UPenn is slightly safer for an ED, but if you ED UVA, no one would hold that against you either.
