Not to be pessimistic (ok, I am), but being East Asian will pretty much always hurt you to some degree in admissions. It's an overrepresented subgroup in higher education, and contrary to common belief, people don't always receive the rewards they deserve when they work hard in this country. Effort matters, but so does your race.

I'll be graduating from Stanford with a double major in Econ and Political Science. My softs are languages--German, Spanish, French, Arabic, Russian, Turkish, Korean--all at 3 year advanced proficiency or higher, along with internship experiences in the German parliament, and a think tank in the Middle East. I'm interested in International Law (esp. labor, human rights)

I'm looking at:

Harvard
Yale
Columbia
U Chicago

Dropping in since I'm very similar to OP - 3.78 from Stanford UG, 177 LSAT. I have decent but not spectacular softs (Teach For America, research assistant jobs, internships, and other work/volunteer stuff throughout UG).

Should I also assume I'm in at CCN and iffy at HYS?

Yeah. In at CCN, very strong shot at H, shots at YS but it's hard to quantify. TFA is a fairly strong soft though, but your GPA may be a little low for what YS prefers, but the strong UG will help slightly.

You Stanford kids need to haul over to Sweet Hall where there is a nice lady who will tell you with concrete numbers how students from Stanford in past years with your GPA/LSAT fared at various schools.

My suspicion for both of you: YLS is the only school where I wouldn't be shocked if you were rejected, but I'd still give you both better than even odds.

Softs *do* matter.

If your wondering why the 172/3.8 got waitlisted while the 171/3.8 might have gotten in on LSN, always a good idea to ask about softs.

The languages are epic, and u have some nice internships under ur belt. In at CCN, as for HYS...
i'm gonna bet on in at atleast 1-2 of the 3.
