I definitely feel that- I went to a relatively low-ranked school and did well by being, essentially, scrappy.

Word. I'm scrappy as hell, too. Probably won't help us much in law school... but I'll cross that bridge when I get there.

Can I just add one thing?

Everyone (including myself) keeps saying stuff like "You'll probably not get in anywhere... except, of course, Cornell."

Well I was just over this guy's house the other day, and he was a federal prosecutor who went to Cornell (turned down G'Town and Columbia I believe). Let me just say, this guy was LOADED. Cornell can = great success if you do it right.

Also, if he was a federal prosecutor and loaded, the money came from something besides his job. Note: loaded to me = very rich, not just making a good salary. Lastly, a good amount of people from Cornell will be very successful, it's just the easiest t14 to get into, by far.

Lol, no I'm not mad. It was just an anecdote that I felt was relevant and obviously I have nowhere else to tell this story. Btw, the guy worked in a firm before switching over to the public sector, and his current salary is pretty high - a lot higher than I thought it would be, even for government work.

Federal government work can pay very well. My boss (a GS-14) makes somewhere close to 150k with bonus and my bosses boss (a GS-15) makes close to 200k.

Also, GS-15 is the highest grade. To get beyond that in the DOJ you have to get an SES position which is, technically, a presidential appointment.

I rather not out myself anymore than I have, but, the point is that pay across the DOJ is fairly uniform and you can make a very solid living later in a career working for the DOJ.

Well that is misleading. For most doj jobs your salary is a good bit higher then that due to guaranteed overtime that is automatically given to you and the differing of locality pay. Not to mention if you were to get a hardship position overseas that also adds plus it doesn't include bonuses. So, for most doj jobs you make a good amount more than the listed gs number

I have a similar question about softs. Besides Rhodes, Marshall, Olympic athlete, discovering a planet, what do people think are game-changing or solid softs? Working in Congress? Testifying before Congress? Peer-reviewed publications? Founding an organization? Fill in the blank... I checked past forums and it seems a Fulbright is a good soft, depending on what kind of Fulbright. Anyhow, any insight would be appreciated!

There is a big difference between "game breaking" and "solid". Most of what you mentioned would belong in "game breaking".

It's certainly possible, though the odds are stacked against you. Creating an excellent admissions "package" will help. Retake the LSAT and apply early next cycle, it's worth the wait.

cornell, Georgetown, michigan, ucla, usc, vandy, ut are possibilites you willprobably get one. They are all good schools. good luck.
