3.1/173 - UVa ED? Suggestions? Forum

I realize that the median is 170, but is 171 a pretty rigid splitter cutoff? I'm confident that I hit 170 on Saturday (I got a 167 in June because I panicked), but I wouldn't bet my firstborn on 171+. I'm 3.1 too, top public, ED, VA resident.

170 was the cut-off last year, but I'm thinking that this year they might raise it to 171 (I am basing this on nothing except that a couple of 170's have been waitlisted). As a VA resident, though, you have more leeway.

Vanderbilt and GWU (especially) i think your in. If you send ur ED in tomorrow (just to say early) i think you nail virginia.

You're still almost assuredly in even despite OOS, especially if you get your app in before all the October test-takers do. Heck a 2.9/170 got in last cycle. Submit ED at UVa.

If you're really worried about it, submit now with your ED. And by now I mean now so that your contract arrives tomorrow. On the almost nonexistent chance you do get rejected this will allow you to submit ED at UMich because the 15 days will still be under UMich's deadline (November 1, iirc). On top of that you will have a possible chance to submit ED at GULC after Michigan if UMich returns your decision before GULC's deadline (December 15, iirc).

Long story short. Your UVa ED contract should be in the mail and you should be part of the class of 2014 before the month ends.

It's roughly 50/50 residents and non-residents and it is clear that OOS'ers are not getting uniformly wl'ed or rejected. It is those below both medians that are getting waitlisted or rejected.

UVa ED is a lot more formulaic than GULC. Also UVa is more forgiving of low GPA's than GULC is. I also erred more on the side of caution because it is hard to tell how much of a difference GULC ED is when it isn't as well known as UVa's.

Actually dont apply to UVA because if you were in one of my classes and asked questions like this i might kill myself. Why are you asking the same thing a million times? what is wrong with u! wow apply to UVA ED otherwise you probably wont get into a T14 except maybe Cornell. No u dont need to rush there and "talk to the dean" or hand turn it in. They dont care what you look like, just mail it in like everyone else

If you were in one of my classes, I know I'd wouldn't be at UVa, let alone a ranked school.

Anyway, I got the idea from someone on LSN who had very, very similar #s and creds. He visited the city, turned in his app, did some stuff around town (it's too bad Buddhist shut down) and was called back into the dean's office later in the day to get admitted.

Just out of curiousity, what's the formula? IN: at both medians or above at both or above med. LSAT and below GPA?

It's been pretty clear so far that 170+ or 3.85+ is in, though at a certain split this isn't necessarily secure. Probably sub-160 LSAT or sub-3 GPA starts to be uncertain.
