To OP: 170/3.3/EE is about 75-80% in via ED, I think.

say you got a 4.03 UGPA. would like a mid to low 160's get you in or what is the cut off line.

162 to have any chance at all, 166 to have a greater than 50% chance, that's ED for both.

I stand corrected. 162 had been the lowest non-URM I'd heard of. Then again, UVA really does love really high GPAs, so it doesn't surprise me that much... if you ED.

Those are two pretty miraculous cases. I wouldn't bank on those being anything other than the exception to the rule.

How big a boost is ED? Would I need to do it for a shot with 3.88 168?

Essentially for ED to have a solid chance of working, you need to have one number above UVA's target median. 3.88/168 would probably do well since you're above their 3.85 target median GPA, though they might give you a "conditional" acceptance (the condition being that you keep your GPA above a 3.85). Yes, UVA has done this with admissions recently.

This is also why, occasionally, you'll see someone like a 4.0/162 get in ED. They really really want those high GPAs to keep their GPA median high. But often they only take the more extreme cases via ED, because that way they can be sure you'll attend if accepted--otherwise they might get some lopsided commitments (say, more people with high LSATs commit than people with high GPAs) and screw everything up. If you ED, to them you're "safe" (they know you'll attend and can calculate exactly how you'll affect their medians) so it increases your odds a lot.

You'd get in almost for sure with ED, without ED it is iffy.

I wouldn't ED unless you wanted UVA for sure, because money is an option and Cornell will take you probably. You've got a good shot at the entire lower T13.
