URM = under-represented minority.
Fair-to-large boost in admissions.
Check the forum for it, I'm as white as they come, so I don't know that much.

URM (under-represented minority) changes everything about your application, and it will give you a significant application boost at most schools. This, coupled with the fact that you're an NC resident, suddenly makes UNC a more realistic option. But until you have an LSAT score (go study!), we can't do much to help you. The LSAT will determine where you can (and cannot) go to school.JuniJrr wrote:

Ok, I just saw the difference in the law school predictor page, I would assume shooting for a 165 and above would be realistic??beachbum wrote:URM (under-represented minority) changes everything about your application, and it will give you a significant application boost at most schools. What else is considered to be "Softs"? I assume my MBA is one of them?

Forget softs. Get them completely out of your head. The only thing that matters right now is your LSAT score.
That's it.

depends on how much work you put in... if you put no work in, then it might not be realistic unless you have the gift of the lsat... if you put a lot of work in, then perhaps in time it may be
its up to your prep and your genetics as for what score is reasonable
softs are other things such as your graduate degree, work experience in the field, being in the military ( really good to have), academic honors ( being published) doing something noteworthy, safely landing a fully loaded airplane in the hudson after hitting birds on takeoff, etc etc

No. It won't make a difference anywhere. Forget you even have it.
So I guess you have worked for the admissions departments at every law school, because that is the only way you could make that statement without sounding like a complete schmuck.
JuniJrr, PLEASE do not listen to anyone who tells you that your MBA will not factor in. Here is the support I offer for my claim. One of the most important factors in selecting students is how likely they will be to make it through the program and pass the bar exam on the first try. Having an MBA shows an admissions committee that you completed an advanced degree program, and did better in that program than you did in undergrad. Many people make the argument that it is easy to get a high GPA in grad school, but you can't argue going from a 2.79 to a 3.8. Additionally, you will bring a wealth of knowledge to a school that values a diverse student body. Contrary to the opinions of flamers on this board, there are schools that look beyond numbers and want someone who is interesting, not just a high gpa/lsat.
Be proud of your degree, talk about it on your personal statement, and discuss what you might want to explore in law school that relates to your MBA.
I am not an admissions rep, but what I wrote above is what I have been told by numerous admissions reps at the schools I have gone to visit, all in the top 100.

The admissions reps whose job it is to get you to apply? Hopefully you apply without asking for a fee waiver, because then they get that money.
Regardless, they want your application, even if they know you're an auto-reject. It increases their "selectivity" category.
An MBA is nothing special and the GPA is not factored in at all to the GPA they have to report. Therefore, it is nothing more than an average soft. I say it doesn't matter at all becuase I don't want to get into a discussion about the value of various softs.
An MBA will not help you get in to a school your regular numbers don't support, therefore it's essentially useless to focus on it.
