While the top schools may not strictly average, the fact that someone scored low once on the test indicates something (thus, this negatively affects the applicant).

Also, it could be that the law school is more forgiving in multiple LSATs if the applicants GPA is higher (every person that is brought up in this thread as an example has a below 3.75 GPA.
