My guess is either it's not binding, or it holds about as much weight as their statements about evaluating all applicants on a personal level.GettingReady2010 wrote:GettingReady2010 wrote:What about at schools that specifically say that ED applicants will be evaluated the same way had they applied without ED?

ED is a double edged sword. Eding to Columbia when NYU and UChi are target schools is a bad idea. EDing to UVA when you are looking at WUSTL, great idea.

is this the consensus? i mean if you are possibly looking at $$ from a 15-30 ranked school vs going ED and paying sticker at a UVA/NU, do you go sticker all day?Desert Fox wrote:ED is a double edged sword. I'll answer your question with a question: Why would anyone ED if it did not help their chances? Name one reason and you win.

right, that is true. but for someone who has no ties to a region or isn't sure where they want to practice? there are big name schools in that 15-30 range that wouldn't pigeonhole you in a specific region. but yeah, tons of other factors. i guess the question would be better directed at people who have actually taken that leap to pay sticker, and their reasoning, and if it was worth it, and blah blah stream of consciousness.paratactical wrote:Depends on the region where you want to practice.pack_85 wrote:is this the consensus? i mean if you are possibly looking at $$ from a 15-30 ranked school vs going ED and paying sticker at a UVA/NU, do you go sticker all day?Desert Fox wrote:ED is a double edged sword. An example of how stats can be mis-used. The stat provided literally means nothing. What if all 250 ED applicants had numbers below both UPENN's 25ths? Would you consider the ED contract a big boost then?drake wrote:I read from last year's threads that Penn accepts 15~25 out of about 250 ED applicants. I am not sure if that ED boost is THAT great. That is, at least for Penn. I heard it helps a lot for Virginia.
