Columbia 6-7, NYU 7-8, Harvard 9-11 March
Anyone else going on a huge trip to the Northeast and visiting these schools during these ASWs?

I'm already in NYC, but might be! I need to visit all three at some point.

I'm certainly doing the CLS/NYU days - yet to hear back from HLS. Which school are you going to on the 7th? NYU's seems a bit fluff that day, but also a fair bit more fun.

I'll probably be doing this trifecta as well, although I'm currently already in NY.

I'm doing the whole shebang! Coming from the west coast. Does anyone know the housing/accommodations for each ASW?
It should be an interesting adventure from the Newark Airport all the way up to Harlem!

Wow, lots of people doing the grand tour! I haven't really looked into the accomodations for NYU/CLS since I live here, but HLS has some limited accomodations with current students that you can request, otherwise a list of hotel recommendations in the area.

I will be at Columbia and Harvard definitely, haven't decided yet whether or not I'll make the trek downtown on the 8th or just do something else in the city. Got a Hamilton so NYU really isn't in the picture anymore, but I would still like to see the campus.

Yes, booking the flights today. How are we all getting from NYC to Boston? I would ordinarily Megabus, but Amtrak is looking mighty nice right about now.

Coming from the West Coast, flying doesn't seem to be that much more expensive. Any thoughts?roflmaozedong wrote:I'm taking Amtrakvividviolin wrote:Yes, booking the flights today. If everyone's taking the train is there going to be a "let's sit here for 5.5 hours and commiserate" train car?

I'm sure some people will think it is, but if you're happy with her company and opinions then who cares really? If you're planning on doing the evening social outings, then it could cramp your style, but otherwise I don't think it matters one way or another.lawschoolboundfuture wrote:My mom's considering coming with me to visit columbia with me. Anyone have any luck getting a travel stipend from H? I would totally take Amtrak if I could get some $ back, otherwise we should just take over the top level of a Megabus.usafgirl wrote:I'm in for a TLS amtrak car from NYC to Boston!2012applicant2013 wrote:roflmaozedong wrote:If everyone's taking the train is there going to be a "let's sit here for 5.5 hours and commiserate" train car?vividviolin wrote:Yes, booking the flights today. Nah, whatever. I'm bringing my mom to Stanford, since she hasn't been to CA in awhile and thought she could use the vacation. As long as she can entertain herself in the city when you have things to go to I don't think it's a big deal.lawschoolboundfuture wrote:My mom's considering coming with me to visit columbia with me. Haven't checked back on this thread since I made it - my bad!
I actually decided not to do this. Columbia and NYU provided no travel subsidy nor did they (as far as I'm aware) allow me to save money by staying with a current student.
It was rather awkward canceling my RSVPs...

They had a bunch of students listed on the admitted students' website with phone numbers/email addresses, I shot one of them an email for the Columbia ASP and I'll be staying with him for two nights.UtilityMonster wrote:Haven't checked back on this thread since I made it - my bad!

Sorry about the travel subsidy, though. I'm a little surprised by that, CLS covered my airfare.
Question, though, for anyone here - is business casual the consensus? So like a tucked in shirt but no tie?

Also wondering about dress. Want to look nice but not douchey. Also, this is going to sound really stupid, but if I miss the first day of NYU's because of CLS, can I still get that cool gift bag of swag?

I laughed at how Columbia's website said you had to be there until around noon on the last day to qualify for the travel subsidy. They don't want you using their money to fly to NY and then leaving early to go to NYU's weekend, oh no.moonman157 wrote:Also wondering about dress. Want to look nice but not douchey. In terms of dress, I recommend you wear khaki's/jeans and a polo/button down. No tie or sports coat, unless you are a "Very Serious Person."
In terms of swag, I wouldn't let cheap crap influence my decision on where to go. Although I think NYU may expel crap in a continuous stream rather than in one lump sum at the beginning of the first day.

Does CLS give out the backpacks at the ASW or after you actually enroll? Those pretty much top anything I expect from NYU.UtilityMonster wrote:I laughed at how Columbia's website said you had to be there until around noon on the last day to qualify for the travel subsidy. Checking in. Probably doing this (got admitted to h on Friday and can't go to April asw). Definitely going to Columbia's asw until noon Thursday, then taking the subway to nyu, then taking amtrak to Cambridge. And considering that I'm right now in Hyde Park visiting U. chicago and then going to a Michigan reception on Tuesday, I'm literally going to have no energy all of next week.

Amusingly, I'm incredibly fatigued right now and haven't even gone to an ASW. When I show up to Harvard tomorrow, Ima pass out first thing.
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
