Summer before law school
I have applied for 3 jobs and gotten all three and have found some excuse or another to turn them down---end too late, start to early, too much work the summer before law school. What are you all doing before law school? Do you think I should work a summer job (I'm a teacher) or just relax, get paid and travel it up?

Do you need money - get a job. Do you not need money - dont get a job.elm84dr wrote:I have applied for 3 jobs and gotten all three and have found some excuse or another to turn them down---end too late, start to early, too much work the summer before law school. I, unfortunately, will be getting a job bc nyc is going to kill me and I have about $100 to my name at the moment

I have a job already and will continue to work to work until mid-August, I think.

Re: Summer before law school
I don't "need" a job. I suppose it will help, but I'm probably going to law school with no debt after (stipend and such). I'm having trouble deciding should I work and make extra money in case of an emergency, or just relax, visit friends from undergrad around the country and do one trip, while doing side jobs (bar tending, bouncing, etc.) I think I found my answer---DON'T WORK.
Just wanted to see what others were up to, any reading or vacations or anything this summer.

Will be grilling, drinking, and generally lounging by the pool. Might read a few books and do a little work on 1L summer job apps when not hungover, and when there's nothing good on TV.

Working 'till sometime in August. Probably trying to do some mild 1L prep (i.e. reading Getting to Maybe) at the same time. I have some savings, but I really don't think I'd know what to do with myself if I wasn't working. Plus, more $$$ never hurt anyone

I live four blocks from the beach, so I will be soaking it all up before packing up and moving.
Soaking it all up with lots of beer.

What's even weirder is the plethora of TLSers that are clearly competent enough to get into law school, but not competent enough to click Subscribe, or Bookmark, Topic...thecilent wrote:Really? You wanted to tag this thread? Weirdo.shortestshortie wrote:.

-brush up on Spanish/Hindi (foreign language proficiency is useful for PI work, but I won't have time to devote to it in LS)
-do pleasure reading I'll have no time for in LS
-maybe WWOOF for a few weeks, or reapeat last summer's counselor job at fat camp
-read Getting to Maybe/do LEEWS
-spend time with family in Norcal; visit Yosemite National Park
-learn to cook some quick, healthy dishes
-move in to my apt and spend a few weeks exploring Boston before LS begins
Pretty chill, overall.

I like hearing about summer plans. Check this thread.

And I agree re: money. If you need it, work. Otherwise, relax. I'll be working 24 hrs/week through July. Balancing that with lots of fun weekend trips.

Cramming for an LSAT retake in June, working 30 hours a week and doing a non-paid internship with my local mayor's office... FML But I guess if I rock the LSAT this won't be my last summer before law school.

Probably 120wpm or 130wpm. More important is thinking quickly along with typing quickly, but I'm not really sure how to (or if you can) teach yourself this. I generally average around 55 or so constructive words per minute on an exam. Anything above 40 words per minute consistently throughout an exam is going to give you a huge advantage.whymeohgodno wrote:How fast do you type?Ty Webb wrote:0Ls: Learn to type faster.

So you only really need 60wpm unless somehow you can both think+write at 120wpm.
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
